The portal has been hailed for its contributions to the development of football in the country over the course of four months in existence

Goal.com Nigeria has been nominated in the Best Sports Website category of the maiden Sports Brands Nigeria Awards that will take place in Lagos on July 15.

The organisers of the awards informed the editors of the website in a letter last weekend that Goal.com has been chosen because of its immense contribution to “the coverage of the Nigeria Premier League, Nigeria’s national teams and the performance of Nigerian players abroad.”

The awards are meant to honour, recognise, promote and award leading sports brands that have made significant impact towards the growth and development of Nigeria’s fast evolving sports industry sector.

Goal.com Nigeria, a part of the global Goal.com brand is owned by Perform Group. It was set up in March 2012 to cater for the brand’s teeming fans who want more news of Nigerian football and footballers.

In that time, Goal.com has reported important Nigerian football breaking news giving indepth coverage and commentary to issues.

The site has also interviewed key football personalities while also covering the league and Super Eagles' matches.

Hailing the recognition, Lolade Adewuyi, Chief Editor of Goal.com Nigeria, said that it is a good thing that the site is being praised for the important work done for Nigerian football.

“I believe that it is testament to what we have been trying to achieve with Nigerian football. We want to bring news closer to our fans and I think our team is achieving that,” Adewuyi said.

Goal.com Nigeria has an increasing number of fans on its social media platforms with its Facebook page already having almost 35,000 likes in just four months.
