Nigeria’s lone team on the continent will proceed for a closed camping exercise after their Federation Cup tie against Nassarawa United as they set sights on the Tunisians
Caf Champions Leaguecampaigners Sunshine Stars have concluded plans to have closed training sessions in both Lokoja and Benin City ahead of their next Match Day One cracker against cup holders Esperance Sportive of Tunisia at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode.
Sunshine have a Round of 32 Federation Cup tie against Nassarawa United at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on Friday and will stay behind for a few days before moving over to Benin for more closed camp sessions and thereafter leave for Ijebu Ode in time for the Saturday tie.
Mike Idoko, execuitve director of the Ondo State Football Agency (ODSFA) told Goal.com that the club would not leave any stone unturned in its quest to start the group stage of the money-spinning competition on a winning note to lay the ground work for a place in the semi-final right from the start.
“We are training in Lokoja and Benin in preparation for our match against Esperance of Tunisia. We know that they are the defending champions and will want to come to Nigeria with the aim of getting a good result but we are ready for them and we are about concluding plans on our preparation for the match.
“We have a Federation Cup match in Lokoja and we will not leave immediately. We will wait behind for a while before proceeding to Benin where we will have the final part of our preparation before the day of the match. We must start on a winning note and that, all the players are aware of,” Idoko told Goal.com.
Sunshine got to the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup in their maiden appearance on the continent last season where the lost 2-1 on aggregate to Club Africain of Tunisia.
