The national team coach has been advised to use the best Nigerian players at every point in timeWith Stephen Keshi leading the national team on a good run over the last seven months, some analysts are running the rule over this brief reign.
“Coaches all over the world always have to make big calls and they live or die literally on those decisions and that will be Keshi’s fate also,” said Ken Ochonogor, a sports analyst in Lagos.
Ochonogor was reacting to the rebuilding phase that Keshi has embarked upon as new coach of the Super Eagles.
“AmoduShuaibu did it so did Samson Siasia rebuild and now Keshi is doing the same. But we see that most players from those regimes are not in the new mix.
“We cannot say that Keshi is not doing well but the question is – is he doing it the right way? I will not agree for the simple reason that our best players are not in his team and it behoves on a national team coach to use the best legs whenever there is a national assignment. But that is my opinion.
“Like I continue to say – form and fitness should be the indices for a player to be invited to play. A player invited may lose form and fitness and necessitate that the coach invites another,” Ochonogor added.
“The buck stops on Keshi’s desk but all I am asking is that he should do the right thing at all times – at least he should try,” he concluded.
