Two Lagos-based teams are in the finals to slug it out for the ultimate prize of N5 miliion
TK Football Academy and Sheriff FC of Lagos are the two teams that will slug it out for the ultimate prize of N5 million on Saturday as the 2012 edition of Gulder 5-A-Side Football tournament comes to a befitting finale.
TK made it to the finals through a hard fought semi-final match against Lagos Island-based De Royal FC, which was won through a free-kick goal in the last minute of the encounter. The free-kick that went in through the underside of the cross bar was taken by Kehinde Ishola, the tournament’s leading scorer.
The two teams made it to the 2012 Gulder final after a superb display of skills, talent, teamwork, resilience and determination against their opponents. The semi-final matches attracted hundreds of club supporters and spectators, dressed in their beautiful colours, supporting their favourite teams and players.
The second semi-final match was between defending champions Sheriff FC – who played last year’s edition as Sholly Babes. They defeated Mandiba FC 2-1 to book a place in the final. Kabiru Nasiru, last year’s top goal scorer and the MVP for 2010 sealed the victory with a powerful volley in the 13th minute of the second period.
The final promises to be a battle-royal between two teams who know themselves very well. Ishola will lead TK’s attack with his 10 goals while Nasiru will also lead his side with eight goals. Both players play together in Nigeria’s Futsal team.
The match will be played at the Gymnasium Hall of the National Institute of Sports, National Stadium, Lagos. The kick-off is 1:00pm.
