An Ijebu-Ode based coach is planning on getting two teams into the national finals in a fortnight
Coach Akinleye Smart is well known in the 5-A-Side circles as his Mandiba FC team has qualified for the national finals from the Ijebu-Ode zone. But the trainer is not satisfied and hopes to qualify Mandiba 2 FC from the Lagos zone.
Goal.com spoke to this coach, who has won the Shell Cup thrice with Baptist College, Abeokuta and he revealed why he wants to qualify two teams for the finals where 12 teams will compete for the ultimate prize of 5 million naira.
“Last year, we were knocked out in the semi-final at the South West zonal qualifiers in Ijebu-Ode so this year we resolved to go a step higher,” said Smart.
“I believe this is my time and we have been working so hard and we are going to put all the things we learnt last year into practice and that is why we are here in full force. By the grace of God, my two teams will meet in the finals of the national finals,” added Smart.
He believes that with determination, discipline and dedication, his team will get the desired result.
“Whatever one wants to achieve in life, you must be dedicated, disciplined and determined. These are my watchwords and with these, we are ready to conquer this year’s Gulder 5-ASside competition,” he concluded.
