The joy of playing weaker teams forced Lagos clubs to participate in the Ijebu Ode leg of the qualifiers
Eight Lagos teams decided to participate in the Ijebu Ode centre of Gulder 5- A-Side football competition instead of waiting for the final zonal qualifiers next week.
Goal.com gathered that the eight teams decided that it would be better to come and participate in the competition in Ijebu Ode instead because they feel they can qualify easily from here than in Lagos.
Last year's highest goal scorer Nasiru Kabiru said it is better to play in Ijebu Ode, because Lagos will be tougher than all the zones.
"Last year, we emerged champions with Sholley Babes in Lagos. But we have since discovered that it will be hard for any lowly rated team to qualify from Lagos.
"This is because majority of the players that played with me last year have joined League clubs. So we simply renamed the club Sheriff FC and now moved to Ijebu Ode to play.
"We are now in the semi-finals and are ready for our opponents, D Time FC. When the Lagos leg would be on next week, we would have qualified for the National Finals".
Another team from Lagos who are in the semi-finals is Mandiba FC.
Captain Ade Adededun noted that there are so many clubs that will register in Lagos and that will not give enough room for teams to express themselves.
"In Lagos because of the large number of clubs, the knock out games will last for three minutes in each half and at that time it becomes a game of chance.
"That is why we ran to Ijebu Ode and we are now in the semi-finals of the competition," Adededun said.
Three Lagos clubs will play in the semi-finals on Sunday.
At the end of the zonal qualifiers on Sunday, two teams are expected to emerge and represent the zone at the final stage of the competition in Lagos with teams from other zones to vie for the ultimate prize of N5 million.
