The Technical Adviser of Jigawa Golden Stars is talking tough after his boys 3-3 draw against Sunshine Stars in Ijebu Ode.
Jigawa Golden Stars’ technical adviser Evans Ogenyi has stated that the club’s 3-3 draw away to Sunshine Stars of Akure was just part of little reward his boys duly deserved after some wayward officiating against them in some of their matches this season.
Ogenyi led the team to Owerri against Heartland last Thursday and was almost walking away with a point until a 97th minute goal handed them a 1-0 defeat, but three days later the Lamido Boys shook off the disappointment to pick a famous point at the jaw of Caf Champions League campaigners Sunshine Stars.
“It was a very difficult match but I must give credit to my boys and the match officials for their professional handling of the encounter. We scored first but they equalized from the penalty spot. We went ahead again and they levelled up before they took the lead but we had the last laugh with our own equalizer,” said Ogenyi.
The coach also reiterated that that club will survive their battle against dropping from the premier division at the end of the season with their recent string of performances.
“I have been saying it that Jigawa Stars will not go on relegation. The point gained on the road against Sunshine is one of the several that we have mapped out this second stanza.
"We also have a lot of home matches this term so we do not doubt our ability to remain in the elite division next season because we are playing well. We played very well in Owerri and ought to get at least a point until the referee played the spoiler’s role,” Ogenyi told Goal.com.
Despite the draw, Jigawa Stars remained 18th on the league table with 28 points from 25 matches while Sunshine Stars are 14th with 33 points from 23 matches.
