The Rubin Kazan forward has placed his support behind his compatriot to win the world’s oldest football competition with Chelsea on Saturday
Rubin Kazan forward Obafemi Martins has placed his bet on Chelsea winning the FA Cup trophy on Saturday against Liverpool.
The former Super Eagles striker will be supporting his friend and compatriot John Obi Mikel to earn his fourth title in England’s most prestigious football tournament.
Last year Martins won the League Cup with Birmingham when he scored a late goal that
“I don’t know much about the game but for the fact that a Nigerian is there, I’m going to support Chelsea,” Martins told Goal.com on Thursday.
“[Mikel] is a good friend of mine. Apart from the relationship, when there’s a Nigerian player in a team, you just have to support them. When they win, it’s taking our profile as Nigerians higher.”
Mikel is aiming for his fourth title after winning the FA Cup in 2006/07, 2008/09 and the last victory coming in the 2009/10 season.
The FA Cup is the oldest football competition in the world.
