Gombe United striker has attributed the injury lay off of strike partner, Mustapha Babadidi for his inability to score goals
Gombe United’s Sani Sanusi has blamed the injury-induced absence of strike partner, Mustapha Babadidi as the reason behind his goal drought.
Sanusi who is on eight goals before the start of the second stanza has been unable to add to that figure owing to his lack of adequate support from his current fellow striker, Yekini Seriki whom the forward confessed he has found it hard to understand.
The goal poacher in an exclusive interview with Goal.com prays for the speedy recovery of Babadidi so that he can start enjoying his game again like before.
“To be frank with you, I am having problem with my combination with Yekini Seriki and it can be attributed to my inability to increase my goals tally since the start of the second stanza,” said Sanusi.
"I really understand the way Babadidi plays and I am not happy that he is currently out of the game because of injury. I hope to see him up again so that we can continue our impressive combination. His injury has really slowed me down.
"I don't know how he will stay out of football. But whichever way, I wish him speedy recovery,” Sanusi added.
The partnership between Babadidi and Sanusi, who currently have nine and eight goals respectively in the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) this season, was a very potent one in the first stanza of the league.
Gombe United won their NPL Week 20 mid-week fixture at home to relegation-haunted Rising Stars of Akure 2-1 at the Pantani Stadium to attain a haul of 35 points from 23 games. They thus moved to fifth position from their previous 7th position. Gombe United will be in Minna to face Niger Tornadoes in week 24 of the NPL.
