The Enugu Rangers hitman says he expects Babadidi to be back on his feet to make the race for the NPL highest goal-scorer award more exciting
Despite eyeing the highest scorer’s award by the end of the season in the Nigeria Premier League, Rangers’ Chikeluba Ofoedu has informed Goal.com that he will be happy if fellow striker, Gombe United’s Mustapha Babadidi recovers from his injury spell, so as to make the race for the prize more competitive.
Ofoedu scored his ninth goal of the season in his club’s 3-0 win over Gombe United at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu to draw level with Babadidi but the young striker opined that seeing the Gombe United youngster kicking the round leather object once more will give him added joy.
“I scored my ninth goal of the season against Gombe but I am not pleased that Babadidi is still down with injury. I wish he is back on his feet so that the battle for who emerges as the highest goals scorer will be keenly contested.
"I am not seeking another person’s downfall for me to rise. I sent words to him through his coach and I was told he will be back soon.
"His coming back will certainly motivate me to also do more and I cannot wait for him to come back," Ofoedu added.
Babadidi has been injured for close to two months and it was just last weekend that his nine-goal tally in the league was reached. In that time, the Gombe United hit-man missed the chance to debut for the national team in last month’s friendly match against Egypt.
