Ejiro Omonode: Gulder is fulfilling the dreams of young Nigerian footballers
The veteran journalist says that the five a-side tournament is helping to expose talented footballers to national selectors
Veteran journalist Ejiro Omonode has praised the impact of the Gulder 5 A-Side tournament on national development as the competition entered its second day in Makurdi on Saturday.
Omonode said that Gulder is helping its loyal customer base to reach towards their dreams by organising the competition that has seen young football players discovered by league clubs as well as national team selectors.
“These are non-league players who are coming from nowhere and could become nationally known through this platform,” Omonode told Goal.com.
“One very positive aspect is that the Nigeria Football Federation looks up to this tournament to produce players for the Futsal national team.
“The four finalists from last year’s tournament form the nucleus of the Futsal team that will play against Gabon for a spot in the Futsal World Cup in Thailand. Out of the 26 players invited to play against Gabon, 20 are products of this competition.
“It has been hugely successful,” said Omonode.
The winning team will walk away with the sum of five million naira at the end of the national finals in Lagos, in June.
