The last game of the first round of the Nigeria Premier League promises to be exciting as two clubs battle for points
Dolphins are on the threshold of finishing the first round of the Nigeria Premier League as leaders if they get a good result in the game against Wikki Tourists at the Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
Last weekend, the Port-Harcourt side beat Ocean Boys to get at par on points with Kano Pillars and Rangers on 32 points, who lead the table. They are third because of inferior goals difference.
Dolphins’ players and officials believe that they can beat Wikki Tourists in Bauchi and said they are well prepared to grab the three points that will take their points haul to 35 and give them a comfortable lead on the table.
A defender with the team, Victor Ezuruike told Goal.com emphatically that they will win the match. “After the ouster from the CAF Champions League, we told ourselves that the only way to appease our fans is to win the Premier League title again.
"This match will present a perfect opportunity for us to move to the top of the table. And from there we can say Dolphins is back to the top.
"We are not even thinking of a draw, but a win that will also give us the confidence to approach the next game this weekend against Ocean Boys in Yenogoa," Ezuruike said.
But Wikki Tourists are also not taking this match lightly. Although they have 26 points, a win for them takes them to sixth on the table with 29 points.
Coach Ladan Bosso is sure they will not lose in front of their home fans. "We are ready for this game and nothing will stop us from getting the three points,” Bosso boasted.
The game will certainly bring out the best in the two teams as they need the points to solidify their position on the table and prepare for the second stanza of the league which starts this weekend.
