The home-based team are relishing the challenge of the 7-time African champions as they trade tackles on WednesdayThe Super Eagles of Nigeria, made up of home-based players, are confident that they will give a good showing against the Pharaohs on Wednesday in Doha.
This opinion was voiced by two likely starters; Godfrey Oboabona and Izu Azuka of Sunshine Stars. The two players helped Sunshine qualify for the next round of the Caf Confederations Cup as they both scored in the 3-0 defeat handed to Recreativo De Libolo last weekend.
“It was quite a tough match but we felt a sense of duty the last time when the Assistant Coach Daniel Amokachi told us that we must always show extra edge when we play for our club-side as that will form the basis of our continued invitation to the national team.
"We are grateful that we were able to do exactly that and our team also came out tops. We hope to continue in the next round,” Sunshine Stars captain Oboabona told reporters.
Azuka complimented the coaching he has been receiving in the national team, describing it as the extra element that is helping him to excel in his club’s matches.
The national team arrived in Dubai on Tuesday and the first training session will be in the evening with the head coach, Stephen Keshi, billed to join the team on Wednesday from the USA, where he has gone to visit his family.
