Striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu happy to be back for Nigeria against Rwanda
The Blackburn forward is making his return to the Super Eagles almost two years after since his infamous World Cup blunder
Nigeria striker Aiyegbeni Yakubu is happy to be back in the fold of the Super Eagles, where he will have the chance to mend his image in Wednesday’s clash against Rwanda in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification game.
The Blackburn forward was frozen out of the squad following his infamous goal mouth miss against South Korea at the 2010 World Cup, where Nigeria exited in the first round.
Stephen Keshi has recalled him for the match against the Wasps and the striker is hoping to return to the good books of Nigerians who criticised him for his commitment to the national squad.
“It’s normal when you play for the national team as a football player. You get chances and miss some. You get criticism both from your team-mates at your club and at the national team. It’s normal,” Aiyegbeni was quoted by SuperSport.
With 21 goals in 57 matches, the Yak is poised to continue scoring for the Eagles.
“I don’t feel bad any more. It gives me the determination to do more and hopefully, I can perform better in the future.
“I am happy to be back. I didn’t get the chance to play for the team since the last World Cup and I am pleased to be back in the national team,” he said.
