The Argentine says he came to Naples to win and believes they have the quality to win the Scudetto and stand up to the best teams in the Champions League
Rafael Benitez’s men have enjoyed an undefeated start in the league, with six wins and a draw and have accumulated three points from their two European games.
And the Argentina international says he came to Napoli to win and insists they have to quality to compete with the best teams in the world.
“We are strong, competitive at any level, with a strong foundation built over the years, back from qualifying for the Europa League and the Champions League, and winning the Coppa Italia,” he told the Corriere dello Sport.
“I do not want [president Aurelio] De Laurentiis and Benitez to have regrets for having bet on me. I came here because I liked the project and to win and I think we can strive to achieve this.
“We are able to fight on par, to dream of the championship and to stand up to anyone in the Champions League.”
Higuain has received plenty of support from former Napoli star and fellow countryman Diego Maradona, since his move to the San Paolo from Real Madrid.
“I will be forever grateful [to Maradona]. He always has nice words for me. I read the messages that he sends me through social networks and in his interviews.
“I scored one hundred and twenty goals in total [with Real Madrid], taking only three penalties. That does not seem like a few to me, honestly, and in a team in which there were plenty of big stars.
“I do not seem to see any difference [between Naples and Madrid] and I must say it is beautiful here. I’m glad I chose Naples and to have been chosen by Napoli.
“De Laurentiis convinced me by speaking to ambitions.”
