Didn't have much to deal with for the majority of the evening but was solid whenever called into action. Beat away a superb strike from Hubschman and his distribution from the back was excellent.
Professionally strutted around at the back and looked the part as he kept Luiz Adriano quiet with ease. Headed everything out of the box and played some incisive passes into the midfielders.
Grabbed an assist for the opening goal as he found space on the right before whipping in a perfect cross for Kiessling. Put dangerous crosses into the box time and again but was booked for a late challenge on Luiz Adriano.
Was up and down the left flank for the whole 90 minutes and caused problems as an extra attacker in the space available. Barely gave Douglas Costa a sniff.
Was left slightly wanting at times when dealing with the pace of the Shakhtar frontline but his positioning helped nullify their threat. Had to be withdrawn with injury early in the second half.
Featured in the whole just behind Kiessling but didn't feed off his team-mate as much as Sam and Son. Showed some lovely touches in the final third though, and was always looking to thread passes in behind the defence.
Had a pretty nervous opening half hour and looked shaky in possession, but grew into the match massively, slotting in nicely next to Rolfes. Provided a physical presence in the centre of midfield. The only negative would be some wasteful shooting.
Bossed the midfield commandingly from the start and ran the match from the middle of the park. Continually put out fires and intercepted balls through, but used his possession well as he slid passes into space. Netted a goal with a superbly taken penalty.
Started the match on the right wing but was given the freedom to drift inside, which is when he caused the most problems. Took his goal brilliantly as he timed his run to perfection before slotting home into the bottom corner.
Prospered in his free role on the left-hand side as he enjoyed floating into central areas. Displayed a touch of class on the ball which showed when he stabbed a superb pass through for Sam's strike.
Was the focal point for all Leverkusen attacks. Won balls in the air all evening and netted a double with a glancing header and predatory finish. Also had a hand in the third as he won a brilliant flick-on to Son.
Looked apprehensive to get across goal to beat away Kiessling's opening goal in fear of the post and gifted the German his second with a horribly spilled cross at the front post. Would have made his defence nervous all evening with his goalkeeping.
Showed plenty of ambition going forward but his final cross or pass inside more often than not wouldn't pose a threat. Displayed an impressive engine down the left and put in a couple of decent interceptions. However, struggled to deal with the movement of Sam.
Failed to follow the constant runs inside from Son Heung-Min and allowed the South Korean far too much space to cause damage. Gave away the penalty for the second goal with a daft push on Kiessling, but was much better going forward as he was always available on the overlap.
Was fortunate not to give away a penalty in the first half as he went in heavily on Kiessling, who gave him a torrid time aerially all evening. Was dragged out of position time and again.
Attempted to act as the catalyst for a few attacks by galloping out of defence, but more often than not lost the ball to pile pressure on his side. Did put in a few extremely solid challenges in and around the box but was poor on the night.
Didn't assert his authority in the middle of the park and failed to keep a close eye on Gonzalo Castro in the whole. Lackadaisical in possession and was withdrawn early in the second half as his side chased goals.

Usually runs box-to-box but rarely ventured beyond the players in front of him. Did spray some nice passes to the wings. Tested Leno in the latter stages with a rasping strike from the edge of the area.
Nothing went right for the Brazilian tonight as his shooting was woeful and passing was wayward. Displayed his blistering pace at times but no where near enough. Attitude was also not impressive as he attempted a few flamboyant flicks that didn't come off in the latter stages when his side was 4-0 down.
Squandered a decent opportunity to equalise in the first half when he ran on to a loose ball inside the box, only to fluff his shot. Hold-up play was sorely lacking which hampered his ability to introduce others into the play and was poor in possession.
Spurned the best opportunity of the match for Shakhtar when he latched on to a pass from Douglas Costa only to lash an attempts into the side-netting. Other than that didn't get beyond the Leverkusen defence and didn't pose too much of a threat.
Made a vital interception moments after coming on and slotted in seamlessly next to Toprak.
Squandered a good chance from the edge of the area, but looked hungry and full of fight after his introduction.
Continued Leverkusen's physical presence inside the area after Kiessling's withdrawal.
