Team Of The Week:

Round 31

Table/Results

GOALKEEPER

Artur BORUC
Fiorentina

The only way Milan could beat Boruc on Saturday was from the penalty spot as Fiorentina went on to claim a 2-1 victory on the road. The former Celtic shot-stopper made fine saves to keep out a Zlatan Ibrahimovic free kick and a close-range Maxi Lopez effort, while showing his reliability in claiming crosses into the box towards the end of the match.

DEFENDERS

Javier ZANETTI

Seemingly of eternal youth, Zanetti turned in another vibrant performance when filling in for the absent Maicon at right-back during the 2-2 draw with Cagliari. Despite Diego Forlan's lack of tracking back, the 38-year-old more than held his own in Trieste. Bonucci, meanwhile, was unwavering in defence for the Bianconeri, and also headed in the all-important goal that took them back on top of the table in a 2-0 triumph at Palermo.

Basement-side Cesena have little to celebrate these days, but Von Bergen has been rewarded with a place in our Best XI for his effort in keeping Marco Di Vaio under wraps in a goalless draw with Bologna. Gemiti had Genoa back-pedaling constantly with his runs forward and it was his cross that led to Giuseppe Mascara's equaliser. It was, however, unfortunate that the other opportunities he created were not capitalised on by his team-mates.

MIDFIELDERS

Stefano MAURI
Lazio

Andrea PIRLO

Kwadwo ASAMOAH
Udinese

Easter weekend's most sensational highlight in Italy certainly belonged to Mauri. The Lazio playmaker's overhead kick following a long cross into the penalty area showed great technique and co-ordination, and was certainly a worthy winning strike in the on-going battle for a Champions League play-off place with Napoli.

Meanwhile, Pirlo's stellar form continues to strengthen his case to be named the best signing of the season in Serie A. The Italy international has now bagged an impressive fifth appearance in our Best XI following his dominant display in midfield in Sicily. Udinese got back to winning ways with a double from Asamoah as the Ghana international put Parma to the sword with two well-taken goals and combined expertly with Antonio Di Natale and Pablo Armero in a 3-1 triumph at the Friuli.

Stevan JOVETIC

The liveliest performance of Round 31 came from Muriel, who burned Roma's back four every time he touched the ball. The Udinese-owned player waltzed around goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg for his first before mesmerising two defenders and striking into the bottom corner in Lecce's 4-2 victory, which keeps their salvation hopes alive. In similar fashion, Destro also scored a fantastic solo goal for Siena, skipping into the box and finding a winner in the 91st minute against Atalanta.

Finally, the player often hailed as Fiorentina's 'next Baggio' delivered a real blow to AC Milan's title hopes by earning an historic win at San Siro. Jovetic struck the opener with a composed finish before setting up Amauri for a late winner that eased the Viola's relegation worries.
