The Borussia Dortmund CEO believes HSV have the economic power to rival the country's three biggest clubs

Hans-Joachim Watzke says Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Schalke are Germany's most powerful clubs, but has tipped Hamburg to rival that trio.

Ahead of this weekend's clash between BVB and Rothosen, the 54-year-old stated his belief that under billionaire owner Klaus-Michael Kuehne, HSV can break into Germany’s top three.

"In Germany there are three-and-a-half big clubs that have a nationwide appeal. Bayern Munich, Dortmund, Schalke and Hamburg close behind," he told mopo.de.

The Dortmund CEO, who has been critical of investment in the Bundesliga, admits he is a little envious of the prosperity enjoyed in Hamburg.

He added: "The number of millionaires in Hamburg I would have liked. It helps if you're in a city that is bursting with economic power."

HSV spent a reported €11 million to buy Rafael van der Vaart from Tottenham in the summer, though they have enjoyed a patchy Bundesliga season to date, with the club currently sat in ninth spot.
