Augsburg got their second straight top flight season under way with a disappointing 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Ruhr outfit Fortuna Dusseldorf in Bavaria. After a goal-less first half, Dani Schahin rose from the bench put the visitors head on 68 minutes with a spectacular effort from distance. that looped over Simon Jentzsch and into the top corner. And the former Germany Under-20 forward's dream Bundesliga debut for Fortuna did not there did not end there. With the hosts pushing for an equalier, Schahin took a Robbie Kruse cross into his path and slotted the ball home to seal the match 10 minutes later. This result puts Fortuna into second place after the first round of games, behind only Bayern Munich.

FRANKFURT	2	1	LEVERKUSEN
Eintracht Frankfurt were another newly-promoted team to come out on top on matchday one when Bayer Leverkusen visited the Commerzbank Arena. Things started well for Sami Hyypia's men, with Stefan Kiessling tapping home the opener against the run of play after Kevin Trapp parried a Karim Bellarabi effort into his path, but after the break, the hosts got thei just rewards for an industrious first half. First, Stefan Aigner equalised in similar fashion after Bernd Leno failed to handle Takashi Inui's strike, and although it seemed for a long period as though the match was heading for a draw, Martin Lanig netted a dramatic winner with just seven minutes left to play by rising high at the far post to nod fellow substitute Stefano Celozzi's cross into the back of the net.

FREIBURG	1	1	MAINZ
Freiburg and Mainz were forced to share the spoils when they met a the Mage Solar Stadion on Saturday afternoon. Both teams ended last season in good form, recovering from poor starts to secure survival comfortably, but it was the visitors who came out of the blocks quicker on the day. Andreas Ivanschitz superbly rounded Oliver Baumann, and looked to have given his side the lead, but an heroic intervention from Matthias Ginter kept the scores level. And they were soon punished for their wastefulness, with summer signing Max Kruse running onto an excellent through ball and tucking home with ease. However, the lead proved to be short-lived, with Julian Schuster hacking down Nikolai Muller, leaving Ivanschitz to smash home an equalising penalty.

HAMBURG	0	1	NURNBERG
Hamburg's poor end to last season continued into the new campaign, with Thorsten Fink's men crashing to a 1-0 home loss to Nurnberg. Club captain Heiko Westermann came within inches of giving Hamburg the lead mid-way through the first half when he met a Dennis Aogo free kick, but Raphael Schafer produced a brilliant save to tip the header over the bar in acrobatic fashion. At the other end, Rene Adler was forced into a smart stop to deny Mike Frantz, who had found himself clear on goal. The breakthrough, and winner, finally arrived 22 minutes from time as Per Nilsson nodded a left-wing coner onto the bar, but the ball fell kindly to Hanno Balitsch, who bundled it home to get the Bavarians off to a winning start.

MONCHENGLADBACH	2	1	HOFFENHEIM

Borussia Monchengladbach bounced back from their Champions League play-off disappointment with a 2-1 win over Hoffenheim at Borussia Park. Markus Babbel's men had been touted as European contenders this season, but last season's fourth-placed team raced into the lead when Mike Hanke glanced home a Juan Arango free-kick just after the half-hour mark. However, the visitors were gifted an equalier after the break when a Roberto Firmino capitalised on a defensive mix up to head home with just under 25 minutes to play. Gladbach did not let their heads down, though, and Arango grabbed a dramatic winner with a trademark free kick that curled straight into the top corner.

STUTTGART	0	1	WOLFSBURG
Stuttgart had only themselves to blame as they crashed to a dissapointing 1-0 defeat to Wolfsburg in Badden Wurttemburg. After a drab opening hour, both sides had a host of chances, to snatch a late lead. Cacau came closest for the hosts with a couple of chances which Diego Benaglio did well to parry, while at the other end, the returning Diego forced an excellent stop from Sven Ulreich with 82 minutes on the clock. As the game looked to be approaching a stalemate, Bruno Labbadia's men were handed a golden opportunity to secure an advantage, though. Vedad Ibisevic produced a decent save from Benaglio, but as he looked to latch onto the loose ball, he was felled by Emmanuel Pogatetz. The 28-year-old took the resulting spot kick himself, but the Swiss stopper saved it easily, before the Bosnian missed an open goal with the rebound. The miss proved to be costly, and in the last minute of normal time, Bas Dost marked his Bundesliga debut with a headed goal.

HANNOVER	2	2	SCHALKE

Schalke, meanwhile, were unable to replicate their title rivals' good start to the season, despite a spirited second-half performance at Hannover. Felipe put the hosts ahead on the stroke of the break by capitalising on some shambolic marking from Huub Stevens' men and heading home a Christian Pander free kick, but Schalke recovered after the interval and soon turned the match on its head. Lewis Holtby fed Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, and the Dutchman opened his account for the season with a cool left-footed finish from the edge of the box after waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Holtby then notched one of his own as he headed home Jermaine Jones' cross. It seemed that the Gelsenkirchen side had done enough to secure a narrow victory, but Adrian Nikci was introduced 13 minutes from time, and swept home a Jan Schlaudraff pass to snatch a point moments later.
