After two league defeats and a 3-0 humbling by Bayern Munich in Day 1 of the Uefa Champions League, Ahmed Musa and CSKA Moscow got back to winning ways with a 3-2 victory over Viktoria Plzen on Wednesday.
The Nigerian started in the centre forward role and set up the team’s first goal in the 19th minute when he laid the ball on a plate for Zoran Tosic who had the simple job of tapping into an unguarded net.
Musa attempted his first shot on 28 minutes but the right-footed effort narrowly missed target. CSKA coach Leonid Slutsky will have had his heart in his mouth in the 32nd minute when Musa was injured and the game had to be stopped for the striker to be treated but thankfully he continued.
Another attempt by Musa in the 43rd minute also narrowly missed target as the Russians sought more goals. He then went closest to opening his 2013/14 Champions League goals account in the 49th minute but his left-footed effort hit the post.
Musa came off in the 89th minute and was replaced by Vitinho. He had 75% pass accuracy from 32 touches on the ball. He successfully completed two dribbles and had three attempts to score.
