With the transfer rumour mill set to kick into frenzy throughout this month's European Championship, Goal.com looks at which players could be heading for England this summer

ANALYSIS
By Andrew Kennedy

As the opening of the transfer window draws ever closer and speculation becomes increasingly rife, many clubs will be waiting for this summer’s major tournament to play out before deciding whether to part with their cash.

For wantaway players, Euro 2012 will provide a platform to showcase their ability on a grand stage, while those already touted for moves will no doubt see the showpiece in Poland and Ukraine as an opportunity to better their hand in negotiations.

Over the next four days, Goal.com takes a look at the players competing in the European Championship who could be Premier League-bound this summer, starting with Group A, containing Greece, Czech Republic, Poland and Russia…

Tomas Pekhart
STRIKER | CZECH REPUBLIC

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | FC NUREMBERG
Appearances 34
Goals 10
Assists 3
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Turkey (2010)
Caps (Goals) 9 (1)
Could be a target for... Sunderland
The striker has scored just once for the national team side, but has enjoyed a reasonably solid campaign at Bundesliga side FC Nuremberg, scoring 10 goals and creating three in 34 appearances.

Pekhart began his career at Tottenham, but despite a loan spell at Southampton back in 2008, the player failed to make an impact in England, although this had not stopped the 23-year-old being linked with a switch to Sunderland last season.

Lukasz Piszczek
FULL-BACK | POLAND

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | BORUSSIA DORTMUND
Appearances 44
Goals 4
Assists 7
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Estonia (2007)
Caps (Goals) 22 (0)
Could be a target for... Chelsea

The first of three top Borussia Dortmund players in the Poland XI, Piszczek played a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s side’s double-winning season, as they beat off competition from Bayern Munich to seal both the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal titles.

His contribution of four goals and seven assists from right-back for his club side has certainly caught the attention of Real Madrid, although Chelsea have been touted to make a move, particularly if Branislav Ivanovic moves to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vasilis Torosidis
FULL-BACK | GREECE

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | OLYMPIAKOS
Appearances 34
Goals 0
Assists 3
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Turkey (2007)
Caps (Goals) 44 (6)
Could be a target for... Manchester United
The Olympiakos man has been an established member of the Greece international set-up since his debut back in March 2007, with his impressive performances from right-back both in attack and defence catching the eye of a number of top clubs from across the continent.

More recently, the 26-year-old has been on the radar of Manchester United, with Sir Alex Ferguson believed to be impressed by the player’s versatility as he looks to add more depth to his squad.

Alan Dzagoev
MIIDFIELDER | RUSSIA

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | CSKA MOSCOW
Appearances 32
Goals 5
Assists 0
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Germany (2008)
Caps (Goals) 20 (4)
Could be a target for... Manchester United

A young and gifted midfielder, Dzagoev could well be one of the players to light up the tournament in Poland and Ukraine. The CSKA Moscow man is an emerging star in the Russian Premier League, and already has Champions League experience as well as 20 senior national team caps under his belt.

Having made his debut for Russia in 2008, the 21-year-old was a key cog in his side’s qualification for the European Championship, and Manchester United are reported to be monitoring Dzagoev’s progress.

Robert Lewandowski
STRIKER | POLAND
2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | OLYMPIACOS
Appearances 46
Goals 30
Assists 10
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs San Marino (2008)
Caps (Goals) 42 (14)
Could be a target for... Manchester United

The Dortmund striker has been in fine form this season, and has established himself as key component of Klopp’s outfit alongside Shinji Kagawa and Mario Gotze – and just like his two team-mates, Manchester United have also shown interest in his services.

A strong showing at Euro 2012 to add to his tally of 30 goals from last season would certainly stir the interest of a number of top European sides, and the forward has already admitted he would be keen to ply his trade in England one day.

Aleksandr Kerzhakov
STRIKER | RUSSIA

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | ZENIT ST. PETERSBURG
Appearances 32
Goals 19
Assists 0
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Estonia (2002)
Caps (Goals) 61 (19)
Could be a target for... Arsenal

Currently in his second, and just as impressive, spell with Russian side Zenit St. Petersburg, Kerzhakov’s name has often been linked with a move to England, while he has been a regular figure in the national team since his debut back in 2002.

Having been left out of the Euro 2008 squad by Guus Hiddink, current coach Dick Advocaat may choose to line him up alongside current team-mate Andrey Arshavin, who is on-loan from Arsenal. And there have been suggestions that should Arshavin’s move become permanent, Kerzhakov may move in the opposite direction

Jakub Blaszczykowski
MIDFIELDER | POLAND
2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | BORUSSIA DORMUND
Appearances 27
Goals 7
Assists 11
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Saudi Arabia (2006)
Caps (Goals) 51 (9)
Could be a target for... Liverpool
The 26-year-old national team captain is the final of our Polish and Dortmund contingent, and has displayed fine dribbling and attacking technique since he joined the Bundesliga outfit back in 2007 from Wisla Krakow.

Long linked with a switch to Liverpool, Blaszczykowski has established himself as a firm favourite among his club’s supporters at Westfalenstadion, but having often been used out of position this season, he may be tempted by a switch to the Premier League.

Igor Akinfeev
GOALKEEPER | RUSSIA

2011-12 SEASON CLUB STATS | CSKA MOSCOW
Appearances 22
Goals conceded 16
Assists 0
INTERNATIONAL FILE
Senior debut vs Norway (2004)
Caps (Goals) 52 (0)
Could be a target for... Chelsea

Despite Petr Cech’s decision to extend his Stamford Bridge stay by a further four years last month, and the emergence of Thibaut Courtois on-loan at Atletico Madrid this season, Chelsea have again been linked with a move for CSKA stopper Igor Akinfeev.

Having made his debut at the age of just 18, Akinfeev was an ever-present in the Russia side which reached the semi-finals of Euro 2008 and in turn attracted interest from across Europe, yet the 26-year-old is keen to stay with his current club after recently signing a contract extension.
