Sir Alex Ferguson: No clubs in contact with ‘fantastic’ Berbatov

While accepting the player's frustration, the Scot has insisted that the Bulgarian remains a part of his plans and will join the Red Devils on their pre-season tour
Sir Alex Ferguson has stated that "nothing has happened" with Dimitar Berbatov regarding transfers, and that the Manchester United striker is "a fantastic talent".

Berbatov has long been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after having to settle for a bit-part role last season, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and former club Bayer Leverkusen rumoured to be interested signing him.

However, his manager has stated that the Bulgarian is still a United player, and revealed the 31-year-old will join up with the squad for their pre-season tour.

"Nothing has happened with Dimitar and he'll join the tour to South Africa and China," Sir Alex told MUTV. "He's a fantastic footballer.

"It wasn't a great season for him last season, partly because I settled more with Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck... and Chicharito.

"I don't think I treated Dimitar unfairly, but he can feel disappointed that he didn't get more football. He's a fantastic talent."

Berbatov made just 21 appearances in all competitions last season, slipping behind Rooney, Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in the pecking order as United fell agonizingly short of retaining their Premier League crown.

The club's pre-season tour begins on July 18th, with two games in South Africa (Durban and Cape Town) before they continue on to play fixtures in Shanghai, Oslo and Gothenburg.
