TEAM NEWS: Moyes hands Rooney start in Chelsea clash

Despite being the subject of a very public transfer pursuit from the Blues, the England forward gets his chance from the off while Jose Mourinho chooses Andre Schurrle up front
David Moyes hands Wayne Rooney a start for Manchester United as they host Jose Mourinho's Chelsea at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The England international, a public target for the visiting Blues, is set to play behind spearhead Robin van Persie in the new Red Devils boss's first home match since succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson.

Chelsea, meanwhile, include none of striking trio Romelu Lukaku, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba - the latter not even in the matchday 18 - with summer signing Andre Schurrle set to take point.

Juan Mata must settle once more for a place among the substitutes as Kevin De Bruyne returns to Mourinho's starting XI.

Manchester United starting XI: De Gea; Jones, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra; Carrick, Cleverley; Valencia, Rooney, Welbeck; Van Persie
Substitutes: Lindegaard, Smalling, Buttner, Anderson, Giggs, Young, Kagawa

Chelsea starting XI: Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Lampard; De Bruyne, Oscar, Hazard; Schurrle
