New Premier League TV deal worth the risk of breaking QPR's transfer record, insists Redknapp

New Premier League TV deal worth the risk of breaking QPR's transfer record, insists Redknapp

Sky and BT announced a three-year €3.6 billion agreement last June, which comes into effect from next season, and the Rs boss feels the club has to make sure they benefit

Bet: Returns: Marseille $15.00 Draw $40.00 Reims $65.00 Ladbrokes

Harry Redknapp believes the Premier League‘s new television deal justifies QPR spending a club-record €9.6 million fee on Marseille striker Loic Remy.

The Rs boss is also hoping to land Yann M'Vila from Rennes for a proposed €8.4m, taking the relegation-threatened January outlay to €18m.

The transfers come just a month after Redknapp openly criticised the club for spending too much money, but the start of the new €3.6bn TV deal from next season has changed the former Tottenham manager’s tune.

"You've got to try. The reward for staying up is so big. In the summer this club brought in players on big wages but didn't pay pig transfer fees for anyone," Redknapp told The Daily Mirror.

"But look at Southampton, they paid €14.4m and €7.2m for two players in the summer.

Redknapp is confident of making M'Vila his second January signing, despite interest from Fulham, and admitted that he had to sell Loftus Road as a platform to impress others to hopefully convince the midfielder to join.

He said: "I had to make him feel wanted. That he would come here and be a big player and that if in two years he does well in QPR - and shows what he is capable of doing - maybe a Manchester United, Arsenal or a Chelsea will come in.

"If that's what he is looking for, fair enough. But he has he chance to come here now, put himself on the stage and show us what he can do.

"If he does well here, and we can build a good team in the next few years and stay in the Premier League, hopefully he will stay with us. If not, at least he will put himself on the stage.

"An offer was made of €33.6m. I won't say who but it was an English club. I think Spurs offered €18m in August and that got turned down. I like him."

Goal.com exclusively revealed on Thursday that West Brom forward Peter Odemwingie is on the verge of handing in a transfer request to force a move to QPR as Redknapp looks to further bolster his attacking options.
