The Magpies' boss has admitted that he may have to sign a replacement for the full-back after the former Wigan man suffered an injury in their win over Atromitos

Alan Pardew has revealed he may have to sign one more player before the transfer deadline after Ryan Taylor sustained an injury in Newcastle's 1-0 win in their Europa League clash with Atromitos.

The Magpies edged past the Greek outfit to earn a place in the group stages thanks to a goal from Haris Vuckic, however they had to do it without Taylor who was helped from the field 11 minutes into the contest after appearing to injure his knee.

Newcastle have been quiet in the transfer market so far this summer, with Vurnon Anita their only major signing of the window. However, Pardew has confirmed that he may have to dip into the market following the injury to the former Wigan man.

He said: "It just goes to show you the pressure of competition as it looks like Ryan Taylor has suffered a bad knock today. So I'll have to speak to the chairman tonight and we might have to think about bringing a player in on the back of that injury.

"Unfortunately when you get these games these type of things happen to you. I feel sorry for Ryan because he's a terrific player and I really hope its not as bad as we fear."

Pardew's side dominated for large periods against the unfancied Greeks, but they appeared fortunate to keep 10 men on the field as Atromitos were denied a penalty after Tim Krul felled midfielder Chumbinho inside the box.

The Magpies' manager confessed that he did not get a clear view of the incident, but was keen to stress that he thought his side deserved the win on the balance of play.

He added: "I haven't seen it if I am honest. I thought overall the game should have been over before we even got to half time, we had some fantastic chances in those first 40 minutes where we played really really well.

"But like anything in Europe it just goes to show you that if the referee had given a penalty and sent Tim off suddenly we've got a different game. Its a knife-edger in any game, whether its an FA Cup game or a League Cup game, they are very close affairs but I thought we just did enough to win today.
