The Reds striker believes that new boss Brendan Rodgers should raid his former club Swansea for reinforcements and hailed upcoming youth prospect Raheem Sterling

Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has urged new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers to bring Swansea midfielder Joe Allen with him to the club.

The 22-year-old was part of a Swans midfield which boasted the sixth-best passing accuracy in Europe last term - with Allen himself the sixth most accurate European player with a 90.3 per cent completion rate.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins has intimated that the club have a 12-month agreement with Liverpool, preventing Rodgers from signing his former charges.

However, Swansea could be receptive to a big-money offer and Bellamy believes the Northern Irishman must immediately target Allen.

“On the Wales front, I’d have to go with Swansea’s Joe Allen," he told reporters.

"He’s special. He has made so many key plays for Swansea last season and I would be shocked if Liverpool did not go for him this summer.

"He’s a Brendan Rogers player, he fits Liverpool to a tee. If Liverpool are able to secure him, they will have a real gem of a player.”

Bellamy also acknowledged that Liverpool can promote from within this season - singling out 17-year old winger Raheem Sterling for special praise.

Sterling, the youngest player to make a senior Liverpool appearance, featured in the last two games of the last campaign under former boss Kenny Dalglish.

“There’s this boy called Raheem Sterling," said the Liverpool forward. "He is a talent, give him some time to carve out a career.

"Fingers crossed that if he can knuckle down and focus on his training, he can grow to become a real star.”
