Henri Bedimo sidelined for Cameroon-Cape Verde Afcon qualifier

The Montpellier defender will miss his national team’s decisive encounter against the Blue Sharks after failing to recover on time from an injury sustained during a league match

Cameroon international Henri Bedimo has pulled out of the squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations return leg qualifying against Cape Verde scheduled for October 14 in Yaounde following injury issues, coach Jean-Paul Akono said on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old left back, who contributed to Montpellier’s success in clinching the French Ligue 1 title last season, is still dragging an ankle sprain although medical reports say he is on the mend.

French born Jean Armel kana-Biyik, who plays for Rennes, has been summoned to replace Bedimo.

The 23-year-old defender and son of former Cameroon international Andre Kana-Biyik will be joining the Indomitable Lions for the first time after spurning previous invitations.

Cameroon were defeated 2-0 in the first leg last month but spirits are high they could overturn the deficit and carry off the reverse fixture to reach the South Africa 2013 after failing to qualify for last edition.
