Cameroon 2-1 Guinea: Choupo-Moting double floors Syli National

The German-born Mainz striker confirmed the Indomitable Lions' supremacy over the Syli National with two goals in a friendly match played in France on Saturday

Cameroon defeated Guinea 2-1 in a preparatory friendly match played in Amanvilliers, near the French city of Metz on Saturday.

Despite the absence of former skipper and the team’s all-time top scorer Samuel Eto’o, who is under suspension, the Indomitable Lions were magnificent and remain a team to be reckoned with on the continent, even though they failed to book a place at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Cameroon’s fierce domination paid off early in the 10th minute via a corner kick which a Guinean defender mistakenly deflected onto the path of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who had enough space in the box to adjust himself before unleashing his effort, which blew past the goalkeeper Naby Yattara.

The Guineans had issues compounded for them when key defender Dianbobo Balde picked up an injury and received treatment on the touchline before being replaced by club mate Mamadou Mara from French side Arles Avignon.

The Lions remained in the ascendancy until near the half hour mark before the west Africans began to perk up and pull level in 24 minutes, through Stade Rennais striker Sadio Diallo, who drifted deep on a solo move and jinked into Cameroon's area before poking his strike past Carlos Kameni.

But the four-time Afcon champions’ would retake the lead nine minutes later through a penalty successfully transformed by Choupo-Moting to seal their 2-1 win over the Guineans, who held Africa’s number one team Cote d’Ivoire to a goalless draw in Abidjan last February.
