Egyptian Cup cancelled due to security concerns

There will be now Egyptian Cup this year despite the efforts of the EFA to get security clearances for matches to go on behind closed doors

The interim executive director of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA), Anouar Salah, has exclusively told’s Egyptian edition that cup ties have been officially called off by the country’s interior ministry due to security concerns.

The EFA had sent the ministry of interior multiple letters urging them to allow the Egyptian Cup to go ahead behind closed doors but their efforts were met with staunch refusal.

Domestic football has been on hold in Egypt since the tragic Port Said incident in which over 70 fans lost their lives at the conclusion of a game between Al Ahly and Masri.
