Newcastle-Southampton Betting Preview: Back the net to bulge at both ends when the Magpies face the Saints

Newcastle-Southampton Betting Preview: Back the net to bulge at both ends when the Magpies face the Saints

Latest Swansea-Bradford Betting Preview: Swans to end Bantams hopes at Wembley Previous Next Manchester City-Chelsea Betting Preview: Hosts look good value to edge out Benitez's Blues

These sides are level on points in the Premier League and with both looking to break away from the relegation zone, David Wright is backing both teams to score as his best bet

The Magpies will play just three days after using the majority of their first team in their Europa League win, but the hosts are still the favourites priced at 6/5 (2.20) with Bet Victor.

Newcastle haven’t lost any of the last eight encounters on home soil against Southampton and will hope to carry that run on in the return fixture after losing at St Mary's Stadium 2-0 last November.

The Saints are seemingly improving under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, and the Argentine boss will look to gain momentum against an underachieving Newcastle side this season.

The visitors have taken points off Manchester City, Chelsea and Everton in their last five games alone and are priced at an inviting 12/5 (3.40) to take the win here.

One bet that looks almost certain given the statistics is both teams to score, and is available at a reasonable 13/20 (1.65). A price big enough to justify backing as a single or as part of a multiple for those hunting for bigger returns.

Over the course of the campaign this bet has come in for both teams in 18 Premier League matches and Newcastle have even managed it in their last four league games and Southampton in their previous three.

There have been at least three goals scored in each of Newcastle and Southampton's previous three domestic outings, so for better a price on a goal rush, over 2.5 goals at 4/5 (1.80) seems a strong option for those looking for a bigger return that the both teams to score market would provide.

For the value bet, Senegal international Papiss Cisse to score twice might be worth a smaller stake at 6/1 (7.0).

The Magpies front man has only scored once in the last four Premier League games, but could easily take advantage of the south-coast club’s leaky defence given his finishing abilities.

Cisse is Newcastle’s top goalscorer now - with five - after Demba Ba left for Chelsea, and with the proposed return of Hatem Ben Arfa, the quality of supply could benefit his confidence greatly.
