Luton Town-Millwall Betting Preview: Expect goals to be in short supply in a tense FA Cup clash

The unsavoury history between these two sides should make for a tense atmosphere at Kenilworth Road, Al Hain-Cole thinks that the hosts could benefit to pull off another shock
After becoming the first non-league side to knock a top-flight team out of the FA Cup in the Premier League era with victory over Norwich, Luton’s reward is a home game against Millwall, in what promises to be one of the most fractious ties of the round.

The last time these sides met in the FA Cup was back in 1985, when a riot broke out at Kenilworth Road that saw Hatters fans banned from away matches for four years and the club’s expulsion from the following season’s League Cup.

Unsurprisingly, this game has been scheduled for an early kick-off, and Coral are offering odds of 9/4 (3.25) on the hosts opening the weekend with another giant killing.

However, The Lions have won 13 and lost none of their last 17 FA Cup clashes against lower-league teams, and are available at 11/10 (2.10) to preserve that record by picking up a victory at Kenilworth Road.

The last two meetings between this pair took place five years ago in League One, with both matches resulting in draws, and you can get odds of 5/2 (3.50) on them finishing all square once again.

The key to the win at Carrow Road was a strong defensive performance, and Paul Buckle’s men are particularly resilient at home, where they have conceded just three goals in their last six matches, keeping three clean sheets.

This sturdy backline should prove difficult for the visiting attack to break down, especially considering they have only scored four goals in their last six on the road, drawing a blank on three occasions.

In fact, neither side have been particularly prolific recently, with just five goals scored between them in their last 10 games combined, so a tight game seems to be on the cards.

A bet on under 2.5 goals to be scored would have paid out in five of Luton’s six cup ties this season, and looks particularly safe in this match, at generous 10/11 (1.91) odds.

With a boisterous home crowd behind them, it is not difficult to imagine the hosts pulling off another shock on Saturday, having beaten Wolves and Norwich by a goal to nil in each of the previous rounds.

Odds of 8/1 (9.00) look particularly inviting on this match finishing in a 1-0 win for Luton, against a visiting team that have lost four of their last five.
