Dundee United - Rangers Betting Preview: McNamara reign set to start on a high note

Dundee United - Rangers Betting Preview: McNamara reign set to start on a high note

Jackie McNamara takes charge of Dundee United for the first time this weekend as his side host the Gers in the Scottish Cup and Willie Duncan is backing a home win at Tannadice

After the shocks provided by the FA Cup south of the border, it is the turn of the Scottish Cup to take centre stage this weekend and one of the most intriguing ties of the fifth round takes place at Tannadice when Dundee United play host to Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

The Terrors are under new management for this weekend's clash as Jackie McNamara takes over the position vacated by Peter Houston at the beginning of the week and the Scottish Premier League side are rated as 8/11 (1.73) favourites with Coral to usher in the former Celtic defender's reign as manager with victory here.

Rangers, of course, are currently plying their trade in the bottom tier of Scottish football and the runaway Third Division league leaders are available at 7/2 (4.50) with Coral to spring a surprise by winning at Tannadice this weekend. The same firm go 11/4 (3.75) that the match ends in a draw.

Lack of firepower will not be a concern for McNamara’s men with top scorer Johnny Russell having scored an impressive 14 goals for the Terrors this term, while Irish striker Jon Daly, who is sometimes deployed in a defensive role, has scored 11 goals.

With that in mind, Coral’s 19/20 (1.95) quote for the hosts to score two or more goals here should be snapped up by eager punters, while the 5/2 (3.50) quote from the same firm for United (-1) in the handicap market also looks to be worthy of support.

It should be noted that United knocked Rangers out of this competition at the same stage last year with a 2-0 victory at Ibrox and they are worth backing at an appealing 19/20 (1.95) with Coral to score two or more goals here. The juicy 11/1 (12.0) quote from the same firm for McNamara’s side to repeat that 2-0 triumph is the value selection for this one.
