Manchester United - Cluj Betting Preview: Ferguson's second string can still win

Manchester United - Cluj Betting Preview: Ferguson's second string can still win

The Red Devils are already through to the knock-out stages but Adam Bate still fancies them to get the job done against the Romanian side at Old Trafford, after a usual early blip

Manchester United made easy work of their Champions League group this season, winning it with two games to spare.

That allowed Sir Alex Ferguson to field a weakened side last time out against Galatasaray and the Red Devils duly lost the game.

The United boss will be hoping for a better performance from his second string at home to Cluj on Wednesday.

Manchester United are 4/6 (1.67) with William Hill to give Old Trafford something to shout about ahead of the Manchester derby at the weekend.

Cluj can still qualify for the Champions League knock-out stages but will need to better Galatasaray’s result at Braga.

The Romanian side are languishing in sixth in their domestic league as the strain of European competition takes its toll but were impressive in beating Braga last time out in Group H.

CFR Cluj are 9/2 (5.50) with William Hill to stun the three-time champions by picking up three points. The draw that may also be enough for them is available at 5/2 (3.50).

In the goalscorers market, there are likely to be opportunities for Chicharito and Danny Welbeck as Ferguson rests his big names ahead of the Manchester City game.

Hernandez is 10/3 (4.33) to net first with Welbeck at 9/2 (5.50) and both will know a strong performance here could force them into contention for some involvement at the weekend.

Ryan Giggs is looking to score in Europe for an incredible 17th season and he is 11/1 (12.00) with William Hill to score the opener.

But netting the first goal of the game has not been a strong point for United this season. They have conceded the opening goal in 14 of their 22 matches this season including against Wednesday’s opponents in the reverse fixture back in October.

Cluj are priced at 15/8 (2.88) with William Hill to score first.

But United came back from behind to win that game and despite the visitors having more to play for it would be a major surprise if the Premier League giants fail to make their superior class count.

The pick of the bets is to back Manchester United to win at 4/6 (1.67) with William Hill.

For the value bet, it’s worth noting once again the exceptional statistic that United have come from behind to win 10 games this season alone. The hosts to come from behind and win is available at 15/4 (4.75) with William Hill in this one.
