Hazard credits Di Matteo after impressive Chelsea start

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a blistering start to his Stamford Bridge career - with six assists and one goal - and is now ready to make his own mark on the team

New Chelsea signing Eden Hazard has credited manager Roberto Di Matteo for his impressive start to life in the Premier League.

The £32 million summer purchase from Lille has shown some scintillating early season form for the Blues - notching six assists and a goal in his first three games for the club.

And the former Lille man believes his Italian superior’s approach to the game is culpable for said form after he help him settle into London life

8/1 Chelsea are 8/1 with bet365 to win the European Super Cup by a scoreline of 2-1

“Di Matteo’s philosophy is more about playing football than being physical,” Hazard told The Sun.

“We do a lot of ball work and pre-season was not as hard as I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be a lot tougher.

“But we’re well prepared because we’ve won our first games.

“What I hope for is to keep on enjoying playing and to be decisive like I have been in the first few games.”

As a stand-out player for Lille during the past two seasons Hazard has admitted that he was apprehensive about testing his talents on a bigger stage, but is now ready to make his own mark on the team as he did at Grand Stade Lille Metropole.

“I’ve adapted very well to life in London. You’re always a bit overawed when you arrive at a club with so many big names,” he continued.

“But then you tell yourself ‘They are people like me with two arms and two legs’. Of course, I have respect for the players who are already here but it is down to me to tread my own path.

“I had already changed countries when I went from Belgium to France, so I had made a similar step before.

“The game goes a bit quicker here, the reaction times are maybe a bit shorter, the challenges are stronger and the fans live for football, which is what I needed to feel.”
