Arsenal will face Stoke City with third-choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone starting in place of the injured Wojciech Szczesny after the Poland international failed a late fitness test at the Britannia Stadium.

Elsewhere for the Gunners, Olivier Giroud makes his full debut up front with Lukas Podolski and Gervinho in support.

The £13 million French forward will be looking to make the most of the start, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger keen to see his side put the loss of Robin van Persie to rivals Manchester United behind them.

The American midfielder only arrived in the United Kingdom on Friday due to work permit issues, but has been handed a starting role by Pulis.

Jermaine Pennant replaces Matthew Etherington on the wing for the Potters for his first appearance of the season, with goal scorer Michael Kightly continuing on the opposite flank.
