What a long night that was! Thanks for sticking with me - @HushKerai - I hope you enjoyed it. Until next time, good night!
FULL-TIME: West Brom 1-1 Arsenal (Arsenal win 5-4 on penalties).
IT'S ALL OVER! Nacho Monreal wins it for the Gunners with a finely taken penalty under pressure. Arsenal are through to the next round of the Capital One Cup while West Brom bow out.
Amalfitano misses for West Brom! Arsenal now have the chance to win it!
Chuba Akpom scores for Arsenal. It's all square at 3-3!
Dawson misses for West Brom! Arsenal have the chance to level! 3-2.
Bellerin scores for Arsenal but West Brom still have the advantage. 3-2.
Morrison emphatically converts his spot kick! It's 3-1 to West Brom.
Luke Daniels saves from Serge Gnabry! 2-1 to the Baggies!
Straight down the middle, Rosenborg scores for West Brom! 2-1.
Nicklas Bendtner scores for Arsenal! Calmy tucked into the bottom right-hand corner. 1-1.
Steven Reid scores for West Brom. 1-0.
The shootout will take place in the West Brom end.
The travelling Arsenal fans are giving the Gunners players some voal support. The away end hasn't stopped singing since the final whistle blew at the end of extra-time.
Arsenal were knocked out in the quarter-final stage of this competiton via penalties last season. But they haven't been knocked before the fourth round for 11 years.
Arsenal have a chance in the final third but Chuba Akpom's cross is very poor. That's the final chance of the evening. Into penalties we go!
ANOTHER GREAT CHANCE! Goodness me the Baggies come close again! The hosts break and the ball comes to Rosenborg in space on the right. He gets his head up and spots Sinclair at the back post but the former Swansea man gets his attempted volley all wrong!
WHAT A CHANCE! Unbelievable! Rosenborg is through on goal and Fabianski rushes out to make a good save but the Swede follows up the ricochet with the goalkeeper out of position, he turns inside the box and then has his shot blocked on the line!
OFF THE BAR! Amalfitano picks upo the ball inside the box and lashes the ball onto the frame of the goal from a tight angle. That's shocked the crowd into life! So close from the Frenchman!
CHANCE! Bellerin again advances with the ball and has Serge Gnabry avaliable on the overlap but he again chooses to shoot and this time misses the target from just outside the area.
Arsenal pass the ball around in the final third from right to left before Hector Bellerin eventually elects to pull the trigger. The youngster's left-footed shot is struck low and is easily saved by Daniels.
CHANCE! The ball drops invitingly for Marcus Rosenborg following a deep corner but he can only strike his half volley into the side netting.
Akpom makes a burst forward but he slides a pass into Niklas Bendtner who is an offside postion. In his fustration the Dane boots the ball and it hits a ball boy. He gets a ticking off from the referee and apologises to the unfortunate young man. Not Bendtner's day is it?
West Brom take the kick-off and we are underway in the second half of extra-time at the Hawthorns.
105' + 1'
The referee blows his whistle and that's it for the first period. Fifteen minutes for either side to find a goal or else we have penalties on the menu.
Chuba Akpom carries the ball forward down the right flank but his shot from just inside the box is dragged wide of the far post. There'll be one additional minute at the end of the first period of extra-time.
Arsenal work the ball into the final third through Carl Jenkinson but the move breaks down with Niklas Bendtner inside the box. The Gunners are probing for a winner.
The young Arsenal players knock together a few promising exchanges but they can't get themselves into a shooting position. It is extremely difficult to call a winner at this stage.
Yellow Card Steven Reid
WHAT A CHANCE! Niklas Bendtner is played through clean on goal and has an age to shoot on goal but hesitates too long and Dawson recovers to make a last ditch tackle!
I'm informed that Arteta has gone off with cramp which makes sense as it is his first game back from injury.
Mikel Arteta will have to be replaced with what looks like an injury and another young upstart, Hector Bellerin, comes into the fray for the Gunners.
Mikel Amatrian Arteta
Stephane Sessegnon gets to the byline and does well to get in a low cross but Per Mertesacker is there to make the interception. Both sides look cautious and tired in the early stages of extra-time.
Arsenal take the kick-off and we are underway in the first period of extra-time!
90' + 3'
The referee blows his whistle and that's it for normal time. It's West Brom 1-1 Arsenal and we are going into extra-time!
90' + 2'
CHANCE! Jenkinson whips in a dangerous cross from the right flank which flashes past all four Arsenal players making a move for it inside the box!
Three additional minutes will be played at the end of the half.
Yellow Card Goran Popov
Bendtner gets his head to the delivery from Arteta but it's an easy save for Luke Daniels to make.
Diego Lugano takes out his opposite number Mertesacker with a lunging tackle and gets himself booked. Arsenal also earn a free kick about 35 yards from goal with Arteta standing over it...
Yellow Card Diego Lugano
Bendtner tries to release Ryo Miyaichi onto goal but Steven Reid is alert to the danger and manages to clear it for a throw. Arsenal could nick this late on!
West Brom earn a free kick in a deep position as Arteta brings down Sessegnon. Dorrans delivers the ball into the box but none of his team-mates can get a touch on it and Fabianski collects.
Yellow Card Mikel Amatrian Arteta
CHANCE! Sessegnon shows some fine footwork to skip past Arteta before releasing the ball to Sinclair. He lays it up for the arriving Berahino to strike first time but the youngster scuffs the shot and sends it over the bar from about 25 yards out.
CHANCE! Lugano meets Dorrans' corner kick with a good header but Jenkinson is on hand for Arsenal to clear up and over the bar. Another corner for the home side is wasted and Arsenal clear the ball up the pitch.
West Brom string together a couple of passes in midfield before a poor touch from Popov gifts Arsenal a throw. The Baggies do look the more likely side to find a winner.
To their credit the Gunners do take the sting out of the game. Wiley Mikel Arteta slows the tempo down and tries to get the Gunners going in attack. The ball is worked towards Eisfeld in a shooting positon but the German is offside as he looks for his second.
The Hawthorns crowd are bouyant following that equaliser and the players are converting that energy from the stands into forward momentum. Arsenal look slightly rattled at the moment.
Goal Saido Berahino
GOAL! Berahino equalises for the hosts with a header! A corner from the left flew above everybody except Dorrans at the back post. He chipped in pass at the near post for the young Englishman to nod past Fabianski. All square at the Hawthorns, extra-time on the cards?
West Brom get bodies forward and eventually Popov crosses into the box from a deep position on the left. Fortunately for the Gunners, Per Mertesacker is on hand to rise high and head away.
Serge Gnabry works space for himself to shoot inside the box but his left-footed effort is hit off balance and Lugano makes an easy block.
Steve Bould is on the touchline for the Gunners and he is urging the players to up the tempo.
West Brom have reacted well to going behind and manage to get into the final third via Long on the right flank. Goran Popov eventually wastes possession with a hopeful effort from long range.
Goal Thomas Eisfeld
GOAL! Thomas Eisfeld opens the scoring with his first senior Arsenal goal. It resulted from a fine move which ended with a assist from Bendtner on his return. Eisfeld shaped for a far-post finish before tucking it in cheekily at the near post. 1-0 Arsenal.
GREAT SAVE! It's the first real save of the match and it's a blinding one by Fabianski! Mulumbu picks the ball up on the edge of the area and whacks the bouncing ball towards goal but the Polish shot-stopper is equal to it.
Per Mertesacker makes a vital intervention with that long leg of his. Sinclair's cross looked like it was going to reach Odemwingie at the back post before the big German's intervention.
Dorrans strikes a shot from about 30 yards out and wins his side a corner via a deflection. Reid takes the set-piece and directs it towards both Dawson and Lugano, who both go up, but neither makes clean contact on the cross. Goal kick.
Sessegnon manages to turn in midfield and he set Popov away with a smart through ball. The Bulgarian is brought down by Vermaelen but Mertesacker heads clear following Dorrons' delivery from the free kick.
Yellow Card Thomas Vermaelen
THe Baggies enjoy a lengthy spell of possession but they're struggling to cross the halfway line. Lugano and Dawson are getting plenty of touches on the ball and the hosts are going nowhere.
Jenkinson does well cutting in from the right flank. He skips past a couple of challenges before laying it off for Thomas Eisfeld on the stretch. The young German can't control his strike and it flies over the bar.
Arsenal take the kick off and we are underway for the second period!
Both Arsenal and West Brom have huffed and puffed in the first 45 but there has been hardly any clear chances for either side. Steven Reid's whipping free kick was as close as anything as both sides failed to find a clinical edge in the final third. The Gunners' attack seems to be lacking familiarity following Arsene Wenger's rotatation.
HALF-TIME: West Brom 0-0 Arsenal
45' + 1'
OFF THE BAR! Steven Reid's free kick shaves the upright after what looked like a touch from Fabianski. The referee awards a corner. That's as close as either side have come to scoring so far.
The referee has words with Thomas Vermaelen and Isaac Hayden following a couple of late challenges. West Brom have a free kick about 35 yards from goal. We are into the first of three additional minutes.
There's confusion in the West Brom defence during an Arsenal corner. The goalkeeper and the defenders all leave it for each other and the ball bounces in the six-yard box evading everyone. The hosts then work the ball forward but a ball from Berahino misses everyone.
CHANCE! Arsenal pop the ball about in the final third before Bendtner works a shooting chance. His effort is blocked and the ball falls to Monreal but the Spaniard's effort is also blocked by a Baggies defender.
West Brom manufacture some forward momentum but Arsenal defend well and wait for a mistake. That comes in the from of a sloppy pass in midfield and Serge Gnabry nicks in to put the Gunners on the front foot.
Yellow Card Monreal
Nacho Monreal follows Hayden into the referee's book and gives West Brom a free kick in a dangerous area. The Baggies fail to make anything of the opportunity because of a poor delivery from Dorrans.
Yellow Card Isaac Hayden
There's a bit of a delay in proceedings as Hayden catches Mulumbu with the late challenge and the Baggies midfielder requires treatment. The young Arsenal man recieves a yellow for his tackle which may have warranted more.
Arsenal win a corner which is taken by Mikel Arteta but Serge Gnabry's effort which follows misses the target. Arsenal are struggling to make the West Brom goalkeeper work.
Both sides have had decent spells of possession, Arsenal more so, but neither goalkeeper has a save to make so far tonight. Goran Popov lets a shot go from range but fails to find the target.
Looked like a chance for Arsenal as Nicklas Bendtner picks up the ball on the edge of the box. He threads a through ball inside the full-back for Gnarby to latch on to but the young German is too elaborate with his first touch and West Brom get a foot in.
Arsenal look dangerous on the right flank with Carl Jenkinson, who has made a good start to the game, but he overruns the ball when he has a chance to cross and West Brom escape with a goal kick.
Arsenal have the forward momentum but they can't fashion a clear cut chance in the final third. The front six for the Gunners haven't played much football together and it's beginning to show. Plenty of misplaced passes.
A chance for the Baggies now as they earn their first corners of the game but Graham Dorran's deliveries are well cleared by Per Mertesacker and Thomas Vermaelen.
Arteta feeds Serge Gnabry inside the box with a smart little pass but the young German's attempt to bulldoze his way through to goal is well marshalled by Deigo Lugano.
That chance for Arsenal is followed for a good period of patient possession from the Baggies. The impressive sequence of passing is eventually ended by Mulumbu's misplaced long ball in search of Shane Long.
Looks like there could be a problem for Nicklas Bendtner here. The big Dane tries to get on the end of a cross rfrom Ryo Myiachi but the ball evades him and he collides, quite heavily and slightly comedically, with the front post. More injury woe for Wenger?
Now Arsenal are beginning to dominate the ball in the middle of the park. Mikel Arteta, in particular, is seeing plenty of it, but there is little terms of penetration.
Mikel Arteta also returns to the Arsenal team following a spell out with injury at the beginning of the season. His first raking pass of the evening is overhit as he looks for the forward run of Nacho Monreal. Both sides are slowly settling into the game.
CHANCE! Now West Brom have a grip on the ball and are gaining some forward momentum. Steven Reid swings in a ball from the right flank for Shane Long but the Ireland international is unable to direct his header towards goal.
Nicklas Bendtner has a couple of touches early on in the opposition's half but Arsenal can't quite get the rhythm in their passing going.
West Brom take the kick-off and we are underway in tonight's late game!
Per Mertesacker and Serge Gnabry are the only players in the Arsenal team to retain their position in Arsene Wenger's squad from the weekend's win over Stoke City. Nicklas Bendtner returns from his Gunners exile to make his first appearance for the club in two years. The last time he played at the Hawthorns, he scored in a 3-1 win.
