Ghana 1-0 DR Congo: Black Stars to face Nigeria in CHAN semis

Defender Kwabena Adusei scored from the spot in the second half that sent Ghana through to the last four stage of the African Nations Championship

Ghana beat DR Congo 1-0 in the CHAN quarter-finals on Sunday night to set-up a semi-finals showdown with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Kotoko defender, Kwabena Adusei converted a 65th minute penalty to hand Ghana the vital win.

The 26-year-old has now scored two goals at the tournament after scoring from the spot in Ghana’s 1-0 win over Ethiopia in the final Group C game.

It was a sweet revenge for the Black Stars who were beaten 2-0 by DR Congo in the final match at the maiden edition in 2009.

The Leopards put in a spirited fight especially after they went down, but Ghana goalkeeper, Stephen Adams was on hand to deny them at any point.

Yahaya Mohammed could have given Ghana an early lead after finding himself in a couple of goalscoring opportunities. Despite failing to find the back of the net, the Kotoko man was a thorn in the flesh of the opposition defence.

Ghana went into the match without two key players following injuries to Godfred Saka and Sulley Mohammed.

Another injury was recorded in the Ghana team after goal scorer; Adusei left the pitch right after converting the penalty.

Maxwell Konadu will be hoping all his injured players will return to full fitness before the game against Nigeria on Wednesday at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The Black Stars who failed to go past the group stage at the previous tournament in Sudan are targeting their first CHAN title.

However, debutants, Nigeria will come across as tough customers.
