Borussia Dortmund-Stuttgart Preview: BVB target eighth Signal Iduna Park win of the season

Borussia Dortmund-Stuttgart Preview: BVB target eighth Signal Iduna Park win of the season

The Schwarzgelben can go top of the Bundesliga - at least temporarily - with a win to follow up last weekend's Ruhr derby victory

Borussia Dortmund will look to continue their fine home form this season and go top against Stuttgart at Signal Iduna Park on Friday.

Jurgen Klopp's men have won all seven of their games on home soil in 2013-14, including a DFL-Supercup triumph over Bayern Munich, a Champions League victory against Olympique de Marseille and five Bundesliga victories.

Dortmund sit second in the league following a week that saw last season's runners-up beat Arsenal in the Champions League before clinching the Ruhr derby 3-1 against Schalke.

Another three points against Stuttgart - or even a draw - will see Dortmund leapfrog leaders Bayern, who play Hoffenheim on Saturday.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan was among the standout performers for Dortmund last Saturday, assisting both Nuri Sahin and Jakub Blaszczykowski's goals, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's 14th-minute opener put him level with Robert Lewandowski at the top of the club's goalscoring charts with six in the Bundesliga.

However, Stuttgart have two players in particular on top of their game, in the form of Vedad Ibisevic and Alexandru Maxim.

Ibisevic has seven league goals to his name this season, while Romania international Maxim has provided five assists and scored four himself.

Friday's visitors are likely to need both on top form if Stuttgart are to leave with a win. Despite being on a four-match unbeaten run in the league, Stuttgart have not beaten Dortmund in their last six attempts.

Their last win against Dortmund came in January 2010 at the Mercedes Benz Arena, while their most recent victory at Signal Iduna Park was in February 2007 - Mario Gomez scoring in a 1-0 win.

Christian Gentner and Gotoku Sakai both missed training on Monday with muscular problems, with Daniel Schwaab also a doubt for the fixture.

Schwaab suffered an ankle injury during the 1-1 draw with Nuremberg on Friday.

Dortmund, however, have no new injury worries, although long-term absentees Ilkay Gundogan (back), Sebastian Kehl (ankle) and Lukasz Piszczek (hip) are likely to miss out.
