Robin van Persie hits a stunning hat-trick as Manchester United seal 20th Premier League title by romping to win over Aston Villa.

    David de Gea

Dropped a simple cross that nearly led to an Aston Villa goal. Lack of concentration on a quiet night? Not the case as he showed by getting down quickly to deny Benteke in the second half.

  • Rafael

    3.50

    Rafael

His cross set up the opener and he smacked an early shot against the post. Calmed down his forward raids in the second half as United took no chances.

  • Patrice Evra

    Patrice Evra

Captain for the night and had it easy as N'Zogbia rarely troubled him before going off. Limited his trademark forward runs, holding back to let Rafael attack whenever possible.

  • Phil Jones

    3.00

    Phil Jones

Got a rare outing at his favoured central defensive position with Vidic and Ferdinand injured. Looked the the part as he battled with Benteke and came out on top.

  • Jonny Evans

    3.00

    Jonny Evans

Key organiser of the United defence and spent more time talking than tackling. Has come of age this season. Nearly netted when going up for a corner but his shot was hacked clear.

  • Antonio Valencia

    3.00

    Antonio Valencia

His powerful running down the right scared Bennett to death and created space for Rafael to exploit. Still needs to improve final ball to be considered a regular in Sir Alex's side.

  • Ryan Giggs
    66
    6
    3.50

    Ryan Giggs

Crept in at the back post to set up the opener and enjoyed picking up his 13th title by tormenting Villa's right-back Lowton all night.

  • Michael Carrick
    62
    8
    3.00

    Michael Carrick

Uncharacteristically sloppy at times as Villa pressed high up pitch and pressured him into giving away the ball.

  • Wayne Rooney
    96
    4
    3.50

    Wayne Rooney

Sat deep in midfield but still shone. His lofted pass to Van Persie for the striker's brilliant second was perfectly weighted. Not at his best but still got a rousing send off when subbed.

  • Robin van Persie

Robin van Persie Top of the Match

What a way to win your first title. The Dutchman scored a hat-trick that included a volley of the kind you will be telling your grandkids about. Has been the difference between United romping to their 20th crown and a nervous battle with City. Goals like his second make that £25m price tag look a bargain.

  • Shinji Kagawa

    Shinji Kagawa

Asked to play in his best position behind the striker and showed why Ferguson has so much faith in him with a penetrating pass for van Persie to complete his hat-trick. Will be kicking himself for blazing over late on though when in front of an open goal.

Substitutions

Came on for Rooney but little time to influence game.

  • Bradley Guzan

    Bradley Guzan

Not at fault for any of the goals and you have to have sympathy with him spending the season behind those a very sloppy Aston Villa defence.

  • Ron Vlaar

Ron Vlaar Flop of the Match

Was meant to be the warrior at the heart of Villa's young defence but crumbled like the rest of the kids when Van Persie got to work. Needs to offer more encouragement and guidance to his team-mates. His effort from 40 yards was comical.

  • Joseph Bennett

    10

    Joseph Bennett

Found space on the left and delivered some decent balls into forward areas but found it hard to stop the flow of United attacks with Valencia powering past him.

  • Nathan Baker

    2.00

    Nathan Baker

Found wanting when United piled forward. Has the build to be a top-flight defender but his bottle for the big occasion is questionable. Did go close with a header from a corner that Van Persie cleared off the line.

  • Matthew Lowton
    2
    6

    Matthew Lowton

Full of energy and enthusiasm but undone by Ryan Giggs wily play. Was not helped, along with defensive colleagues by manager's decision to play an attacking line-up that left them exposed.

  • Charles N'Zogbia
    2
    6
    2.00

    Charles N'Zogbia

Had the chance to get Villa back into the game when they were two goals down by surging into the box but his delayed shot was blocked. Subbed at half-time.

  • Ashley Westwood
    1
    5

    Ashley Westwood

Neat in his passing and looked to get his strikers away but found himself over run as Carrick and Rooney ran the midfield.

  • Fabian Delph

    Fabian Delph

Never in the game. Was meant to snap at the heels of United's midfield but was a yard off the the pace throughout.

  • Gabriel Agbonlahor

    Gabriel Agbonlahor

One turn and hit from the edge of the box proved the striker was sharp but suffered from seeing too little of the ball.

  • C. Benteke

    4
    2.50

    C. Benteke

Looked certain to add to his run of four goals in five games when Weimann found him in the box only to shot over. Had a decent attempt from 20 yards out in the second half when De Gea made a smart save by his post.

  • Andreas Weimann
    7
    4
    3.50

    Andreas Weimann

Quick on the break and set Benteke up with a driving run that his strike partner smacked over the bar. Bent a cross-shot inches past De Gea's post in the second half with the keeper beaten

Substitutions

  • Ciaran Clark

    Ciaran Clark

Introduced once the game was dead.

  • Karim El Ahmadi

    Karim El Ahmadi

Came on at half-time and gave Villa a more solid look in the centre of the park. Also managed to test De Gea with a shot from distance that threatened to fly in before the Spaniard got a fingertip to the ball.
