After conceding four at the hands of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in midweek this was a much easier 90 minutes for the goalkeeper, although he had to be alert to save from Benteke’s header in the first half. The keeper clawed the ball away with a strong left hand to prevent his side going behind.
City’s captain played well against fellow countryman Benteke and although he restricted the striker’s chances well there were a couple of occasions where he could have been closer to him.
After making an impact as a sub last weekend the fullback was back in the starting line-up for City and he performed well on the right hand side. He caused Stevens plenty of problems and delivered some wicked crosses into the penalty area.
Is definitely settling into life in the Premier League and looked solid alongside Kompany at the back for the Champions, he dealt with Benteke well by denying the striker and real sights of goal.
A solid performance from the full-back , he dominated the battle against Weimann and gave the youngster a frustrating afternoon. He was replaced by Kolarov in the 73rd minute.
Involved in a lot of City’s attacking play, always looking for a gap to thread a pass through but sometimes tried to over-complicate things and chose the wrong option. His goal on half time sparked him into life and his second half performance was excellent, plenty of neat passing and movement. He was replaced by Sinclair late in the game.
Worked well with Toure to dominate the midfield and dictate the tempo of the game throughout. His positional play was always very good and his passing helped push City forward to create chance after chance.
Drifted in and out of the game and despite producing some moments of quality he was unable to unlock the Villa defence. He had a great effort midway through the first half, and although he met Maicon’s cross his shot was weak and straight at Guzan who saved easily.
A fairly easy afternoon for the Ivorian who was at the centre of most of City’s attacking moves. He strolled the game, protecting the back four and giving the hosts a solid foundation to punish Villa.
The striker got himself on the scoresheet twice which capped a very good performance that the Villa defence could do nothing about. His penalty was convincing, giving Guzan no chance, and for his second he moved brilliantly to find space and tap home Nasri’s cross.
Full of movement and a real threat throughout for the Villa defence. His movement and link up with Tevez are a joy to watch and his reward was two goals to secure the win. His first was an emphatic penalty and the second a slightly fortunate goal that was deflected past Guzan. He was replaced by Dzeko in the 69th minute.
Had a busy afternoon as he tried to keep his side in the game. He was unlucky with both penalties and had bad luck with the deflected fourth goal.
Had a torrid time at left back as City took advantage of his inexperience. He struggled to stay close to Silva and Maicon and was unfortunate to deflect Aguero's shot in for City's fourth.
A tough afternoon against the lively pair of Aguero and Tevez. He struggled against their pace and movement.
The central defender helped organise his side well and maintained a solid line. However he could do nothing to stop the City barrage in the second half.
Tried to get forward when he could but was needed in defensive situations much more as the home side threatened throughout. He fought well with Nasri and didn’t let the Frenchman have too much room to cause danger.
Closed down the City attacks well and worked very hard in the centre of the pitch but he found it hard. He was subbed in the 62nd minute and received a standing ovation from the City fans.
Worked hard in the centre of midfield but couldn't break Toure and Barry's hold on the game. Conceded the second penalty with a silly handball.
A threat on the break and caused some concern to the City defence, but his final pass was poor and he never tested Hart.
Worked hard, held the ball up well but couldn't break through Kompany and Nastasic. He had one good header in the first half which Hart saved well.
After his double against Manchester United he had a poor game against City. He was unfortunate to concede a penalty but he was rarely in the game to threaten City.
Threatened down the left when he replaced Clichy, looked good working with Nasri.
Had some great chances when he came on but was unable to beat Guzan.
Replaced Aguero on 69 and gave his side a new dimension going forward, he was instrumental in the fifth goal and was inches away from scoring himself near the end.
