Player Ratings: Bayern Munich 7-1 Hoffenheim

Goal.com assesses the individuals on show as the Bavarian giants hammered the Sinsheim outfit in an emphatic victory at the Allianz Arena on Saturday afternoon

By Clark Whitney

    Manuel Neuer

What is there to say for a player used in an almost entirely superfluous role? Unneeded for the majority of the match, and only really was tested late, when Babel was in with a one-on-one.

  • Jerome Boateng

    Jerome Boateng

Hardly tested at the back, but rock-solid during 45 minutes on the pitch. Was replaced at the interval due to a knee injury: Bayern will hope it is not too serious, as he will surely be needed more on Tuesday against Basel.

  • Philipp Lahm

    3.00

    Philipp Lahm

Looked at home on the right flank, and brought the best out of Robben once more. Did well to win a penalty that led to the second goal, which essentially put the result to rest early.

  • David Alaba

    3.00

    David Alaba

Was not pressured in defence, but proved himself at least as an attacking full-back, as he combined very well with Ribery. In the 19-year-old Austrian, Heynckes just might have found the solution he has been looking for opposite Lahm.

  • Holger Badstuber

    0
    2.50

    Holger Badstuber

Was arguably a greater influence in attack than defence, as he took a few shots, one of which hit the bar. Had very little to do at the back.

  • Franck Ribéry

Franck Ribéry Top of the Match

The creative mastermind behind Bayern's first-half rout. Scored once, gave three assists, and played a critical role in another strike. Simply impossible to contain.

  • Arjen Robben

    Arjen Robben

Two goals, two assists - a fantastic performance from the Dutchman, who has taken criticism as of late, but responded in the best way possible. Finally looks to be in the form that has in the past made him such a big hit at the Allianz Arena.

  • Luiz Gustavo

    Luiz Gustavo

As a defensive player, the Brazilian had a very quiet game, even when he was in midfield. Made a very poor mistake late, however, as he slipped and left Babel with a clear path to goal.

  • Toni Kroos

    0
    0.00

    Toni Kroos

Pulled the strings in midfield with typical class and dominated the play overall. Scored a trademark low drive from well outside the box.

  • Thomas Müller

    Thomas Müller

Unlucky not to get his name on the score-sheet. Played a critical role in the opener and had a couple good chances on goal, but was decidedly a supporting figure for the likes of Robben, Ribery, and Gomez.

  • Mario Gomez
    0
    0
    4.00

    Mario Gomez

Scored an opportunistic opener early on, but that strike changed him. From the hesitant striker he has been as of late to the ruthless hit-man the Munich faithful have come to love. Scored a second before half-time, and had his hattrick within 47 minutes. Forced off early due to a knock, which could be costly, as his class will be needed in the Champions League.

    Bastian Schweinsteiger

On for the final half hour, the Germany international was like a magnet to the ball: he always sought possession, and almost never misplaced a pass.

  • Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

    Anatoliy Tymoshchuk

Replaced Boateng at the start of the second half, and bravely absorbed some dangerous challenges in 45 minutes on the pitch. Assured in possession, he did well to ensure what would have been a clean sheet if not for an individual error.

  • Ivica Olic

    2.50

    Ivica Olic

Came on for Gomez, but made very little impact. Standing between two giants in the penalty box, he never had the space to shoot.

  • Tom Starke

    Tom Starke

Cannot be blamed for some of the goals, but is at least partly responsible for those scored early. Parried the ball straight to Gomez for the opener, and was poorly positioned for Kroos' goal that made it 3-0. He was beaten seven times: not a good day at work.

  • Marvin Compper

    1.00

    Marvin Compper

Hopelessly unaware, and was duly punished as his late challenge on Lahm resulted in a booking. A very disappointing day for the former Germany international, who after a woeful start, never turned things around.

  • Edson Braafheid

    Edson Braafheid

An atrocious performance against his former club. Beaten again and again by Robben - his only hope of stopping his compatriot was to foul.

  • Jannik Vestergaard

    1.00

    Jannik Vestergaard

Slightly less of a mess than Compper, the young Dane made a few vital clearances and one great tackle in the early minutes. But the score alone is damning enough.

  • Isaac Vorsah

    1.00

    Isaac Vorsah

Only brought into the starting line-up in the moments before the match, the Ghanaian was perhaps not prepared to play, let alone in a midfield role. Lacked precision in the centre, and was uncomfortable in a position he has not frequented for quite some time.

  • Sebastian Rudy

    1.50

    Sebastian Rudy

Ran hard, but was out-played in the centre of the park. Stood absolutely no chance, and chased shadows for long spells. His one contribution of note was a late free-kick that hit the side-netting.

  • Boris Vukcevic

    Boris Vukcevic

No threat whatsoever on the right flank, and was more often in a defensive role than in possession. Grew frustrated, and was fortunate not to be sent off.

  • Daniel Williams

    Daniel Williams

His assignment was to stop Ribery, and quite clearly, the 23-year-old did not come even close. Was, like many of his team-mates, humiliated by Bayern's rampant attack.

  • Tobias Weis

    2.00

    Tobias Weis

One of the few Hoffenheim players who bothered to show up, but lacked the class to properly compete. Had one nice run into the box before being stopped by Boateng. Earns credit for effort.

  • Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino Flop of the Match

Like Babel, saw little of the ball, but when he was in possession, he generally wasted it. Had the opportunity to test Neuer from the edge of the box in the first half, but sliced his shot wide. Appeared disinterested in the game.

  • Ryan Babel

    Ryan Babel

Took his opportunity well when Luiz Gustavo made a fatal slip, but was quiet for large stretches of the match. His team-mates did little to help him, however, giving the Dutchman next to nothing in the way of service.
