Player Ratings: Liverpool 4-2 Notts County

The Reds needed extra-time strikes from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson to win it after their League One opposition had admirably come back from two goals down

    Simon Mignolet

Had little trouble in keeping out an early strike from Joss Labadie but enjoyed an otherwise incredibly comfortable first half. Could arguably do very little about the goals.

  • Aly Cissokho

    5

    Aly Cissokho

Saw his first start in a Liverpool shirt ruined as he picked up an injury after just a few minutes.

  • Andre Wisdom

Andre Wisdom Flop of the Match

Started the game at centre-half but was forced to right-back by Aly Cissokho's injury. You sense that Brendan Rodgers might have to preferred to see him in the middle, especially when he was arguably beaten too easily to the ball by Yoann Arquin for a goal. Struggled with his passing from that point onward.

  • Glen Johnson

    3.00

    Glen Johnson

Moved over to left-back following Cissokho's withdrawal. Posed the usual attacking threat but did little of note.

  • Kolo Toure

    6
    3.50

    Kolo Toure

The Ivorian has proved a revelation for Liverpool at this early stage of the season and was imposing in the air yet again against a physical threat which would could have tested him. Forced off by a worrying groin injury in extra time.

  • Joe Allen

    2
    3.50

    Joe Allen

Has struggled to dislodge Jordan Henderson from Liverpool's midfield in the league but showed his worth with an intelligent performance. Recovered the ball on numerous occasions, passed it well and even showed his dribbling ability early in the first half. Forced off by injury in the second period.

  • Jordon Ibe
    5

    2.50

    Jordon Ibe

The 17-year-old put in some outstanding performances in pre-season for Liverpool and had been considered as a threat to Raheem Sterling's status as the club's brightest prospect. Endured a frustrating evening, though, with few things coming off for him. Kept working hard either way.

  • Raheem Sterling

    1
    3.50

    Raheem Sterling

The young winger appears to have benefited greatly from having been somewhat thrown in at the deep end last term. Never let the opposition defence have a moment's peace and took his goal brilliantly. Noticeably tired late into the second half but had to remain on the pitch for extra time.

  • Steven Gerrard
    9
    1
    3.50

    Steven Gerrard

Controlled the game from a deep position and even threw in a few trademark runs into the box. Had Notts County not scored their goal, you feel that Rodgers would have withdrawn him much earlier.

  • Daniel Sturridge

    3
    4.00

Daniel Sturridge Top of the Match

The former Chelsea man is arguably the most in-form forward in the country and continued his hot streak with a well-hit effort from the edge of the box. Showed great willingess to hold the ball up for team-mates and, despite looking tired, got a match-winning goal in extra-time.

  • Luis Alberto
    6
    5
    2.50

    Luis Alberto

Struggled to find his passing rhythm and often looked a gear slower than his pacier attacking colleagues. Will have learnt a lot from his first English cup tie.

Substitutions

  • Daniel Agger
    4
    2
    3.50

    Daniel Agger

Thrown in following Aly Cissokho's injury but looked ready and willing. Did well against physical opponents and looked as unerring as ever on the ball.

  • Jordan Henderson
    4
    1
    3.00

    Jordan Henderson

Brought legs to a midfield whose energy levels appeared to drop off a cliff in the second half. Could not prevent Notts County finding a way back in, but ended the game with a brilliant run and finish in extra time.

  • Coutinho
    5
    0
    3.00

    Coutinho

Showed the measure of Rodgers's desperation to see off the visitors but was frustrated in his attempts to unlock the opposing defence.

  • Bartosz Bialkowski

    2.00

    Bartosz Bialkowski

Should arguably have done better for Raheem Sterling's opener but could do little about Daniel Sturridge's goal. Produced an excellent save to deny Daniel Agger in the second half and gave his side a chance but was again poor in stopping Sturridge for Liverpool's winning goal.

  • Mustapha Dumbuya

    1
    2.00

    Mustapha Dumbuya

Given a nightmare evening at right-back by the brilliant Raheem Sterling. Did not have an answer for the youngster's trickery and pace.

  • Emmanuele Smith

    0
    2.00

    Emmanuele Smith

Made to look a fool by Raheem Sterling for the first goal of the night, as he was easily bamboozled before allowing the winger to run on. Flicked the ball on for Notts County's goal but struggled for large periods.

  • Enda Stevens
    1
    1
    3.00

    Enda Stevens

Frustrated the inexperienced Jordon Ibe all evening, forcing him into uncomfortable positions and testing his first touch.

  • Callum McGregor
    1
    1
    2.50

    Callum McGregor

Did not get many chances to evidence his passing ability, spending much of the game chasing shadows in midfield. Battled manfully.

  • Joss Labadie
    0
    1
    3.00

    Joss Labadie

Looked the visitors' most legitimate attacking threat in the first half, with his powerful running and ability to hit the ball from distance. Tailed off in the second, however.

  • Mark Fotheringham
    0
    0
    2.50

    Mark Fotheringham

Part of a midfield which was overrun for much of the match. Kept coming back for more, though, and worked his socks off until being withdrawn late in the second half.

  • David Bell
    0
    0
    2.50

    David Bell

Tracked Andre Wisdom well on Notts County's left but provided very little in an attacking sense for the visitors.

  • Gary Liddle
    0
    1
    3.50

    Gary Liddle

Looked powerless to stop the hosts' free-flowing football in the first half but facilitated his side's improvement in the second. Did more to stop Liverpool having it all their own way and led his team admirably.

  • Jamal Campbell-Ryce
    2
    0
    2.00

    Jamal Campbell-Ryce

Had remarkably little to work with in terms of possession but was easily stopped by the Liverpool defence when he did have it.

  • Yoann Arquin
    2
    1
    3.00

    Yoann Arquin

Had a thankless task for much of the game but did well to head home and give Notts County a way back with his only chance of the match before teeing up Adam Coombes for the equaliser.

Substitutions

  • Curtis Thompson

    0

    Curtis Thompson

Gave his right-back a much-needed hand in dealing with Raheem Sterling and posed a real threat on the counterattack.

  • Andre Boucaud

    Andre Boucaud

Brought extra energy to the visitors' midfield and prompted the late turnaround.

  • A. Coombes

    A. Coombes

Provided a grandstand finish with a calm finish at the back post to level the scores and bring on extra time.
