Player Ratings: Stoke City 3-2 Chelsea

An Andre Schurrle double was not enough for the Blues as Oussama Assaidi scored a late winner for Mark Hughes' men to give the Potters all three points

Could do nothing about the two Chelsea goals. Handled well to hold a late Lampard free-kick. His long punt upfield led to Ireland's goal at the beginning of the second half.

Composed performance from the Barcelona loanee who looks like he is growing into Premier League football.

Back in the side and made a huge difference. Tracked Torres well and looked comfortable.

Stoke will struggle to keep hold of him if he keeps performing so consistently. If you were to be harsh he was turned to easily for Schurrle's first goal but all in all an impressive afternoon.

Brave performance from the American who got stuck in all afternoon. One block in particular on Ramires stopped Chelsea going through on goal in the second half.

Second successive start for the defender who was solid and compact all game in the Stoke back line. Let nothing go past him.

Glenn Whelan Flop of the Match

Didn't track Schurlle for his first goal and once again looked unfit in the midfield struggling against Mikel and Ramires.

  • Steven N'Zonzi

    Steven N'Zonzi

Looked like he wasn't interested for large periods and Ramires ran off him all game.

His injury really affected Stoke's play in the first half and he was eventually substituted.

    Marko Arnautovic

Worked hard and took the corner that led to Crouch's goal but doesn't look to drive forward enough when he is on the ball. Too often he looks to come inside and play the easy pass.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters

Again looked wasted out wide but outmuscled Azpilicueta on the right before setting up Ireland who fired home.

  • Peter Crouch

    Peter Crouch

His goal came easier than he will have thought it would, and he did well to finish quickly for a true poacher's strike in the first half. He was lifted by this and in the second half proved a handful for Terry and Cahill.

    Oussama Assaidi

On with just minutes to go and he will be the toast of Stoke tonight. What a winner it was when the on-loan Liverpool man drove at Ivanovic and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner.

    Petr Cech

Looked to be blamed for Crouch's first-half equaliser for poor communication but that could be said about the two Chelsea centre-backs. Handled well when he had to and distribution was always at a fast-pace to set up his side's attacks.

  • Branislav Ivanovic

    Branislav Ivanovic

Impressive down the right-hand side getting forward well, giving Chelsea an extra outlet. He should have won the header which cost his side a goal just before half-time.

  • Gary Cahill

    Gary Cahill

Generally had a good game in which he wasn't afraid to clear the ball to safety, moving his side up the pitch in the process. He wasn't tight enough to Crouch for the first goal and maybe could have closed down Ireland for the second.

  • John Terry

    John Terry

Showed why many believe he should be on the plane to Brazil with a commanding display. Generally handled Crouch well all game.

    César Azpilicueta

Was at fault for Stoke's second goal when he was outmuscled by Walters. Didn't really affect the game enough going forward.

  • Ramires

    Ramires

Missed a hatful of chances in the first half running late from midfield. His box-to-box style caused Stoke a lot of problems but he will feel he should have been on the scoresheet today.

  • John Obi Mikel

    John Obi Mikel

Excellent routine performance from the NIgerian who kept things nice and easy in the Chelsea midfield before he was replaced, supplying the likes of Hazard and Mata to set up attacks.

  • Eden Hazard

His ability to manoeuvre away from danger when closed down is a joy to watch and he was always direct and creative in his play.

  • Fernando Torres

Worked hard and always looked to get in behind the Stoke backline, creating space for the midfield three in behind him to exploit.

  • Juan Mata

    Juan Mata

Looked like he was going through the motions at times and didn't have as much of an impact as Schurlle and Hazard. Never looked committed in his defensive duties.

  • Andre Schürrle

Andre Schürrle Top of the Match

A wonderful display by the young German who produced two splendid finishes this afternoon. His movement is very clever which was shown for his first goal. Unlucky not to score a hat-trick, hitting the crossbar before being replaced on the hour mark.

Substitutions

  • Frank Lampard
