Michu and Michael Laudrup's Swans show no sign of Europa League comedown as lethargic Eagles fail to make the grade in face of visitors' verve

By Alex Ward at Selhurst Park

  • Julian Speroni

    Julian Speroni

Reliable for the entirety of the encounter and produced a string of fine saves to spare his side's blushes. Was a commanding presence at set pieces and dealt with the high ball well when called upon. At fault for neither of the goals.

  • Adrian Mariappa

    2.50

    Adrian Mariappa

Pegged back in his own half for the majority of the game as he struggled with the pace Routledge and Dyer. Relatively reliable, but failed on occasion in clutch situations and was beaten to the byline and allowed his opposition number to cut inside too frequently.

  • Danny Gabbidon

    2.50

    Danny Gabbidon

Dealt with the limited threat by Vasquez but was outclassed by Michu in one-to-one situations. Put his team in hot water with a couple of wayward passes, but utilised his pace to mop up long balls.

  • Dean Moxey

    1.50

Dean Moxey Flop of the Match

Displayed little attacking ambition and looked out of his depth defensively in face of Dyer and Routledge's attacking verve.

  • Damien Delaney

    2.00

    Damien Delaney

Was withdrawn at half time and put in an ordinary showing, failing to pick up Michu on a regular basis despite a number of important defensive headers at set pieces.

  • Barry Bannan
    0
    0
    2.50

    Barry Bannan

Was involved in many of his side's attacks and his quick passing lubricated the attack going forward. For all his efforts, though, lacked the physicality to deal with Shelvey and sometimes wasteful in possession.

  • Adlène Guedioura

    0
    3.50

    Adlène Guedioura

Did well with the ball at his feet and his direct passing added some degree of attacking impetus, but was quite ordinary defensively. Did fairly well in filling the boots of the suspended Kagisho Dikgacoi.

  • Jason Puncheon

    Jason Puncheon

Disappointed slightly with his loose passing but exhibited his Premier League experience by providing a constant option down the right flank. Quick with ball at his feet, but his final delivery left something to be desired.

  • Mile Jedinak

    3.50

    Mile Jedinak

A combative, commanding presence in the midfield but inelegant with the ball at his feet. Had a mammoth task to limit the Swansea attack without Dikgacoi to assist with defensive duties in the first half. Deputised competently at centre back after Delaney's half time withdrawal.

  • Cameron Jerome

    0
    2.50

    Cameron Jerome

Looked isolated and uncomfortable on the left wing. Was predominantly a passenger in the game but was strong in the air when called upon and put pressure on the defenders.

  • Marouane Chamakh

    2.00

    Marouane Chamakh

Cut a forlorn figure at the helm of the attack but not entirely culpable for his lack of influence. Strong in the air and won a number of dangerous free kicks in the first half but his passing lacked finesse.

Substitutions

  • Campaña

    Campaña

Passed relatively well upon introduction but became visibly frustrated with his teammates. Unable to display his pedigree through little fault of his own, and came close to a moment of brilliance late on as his long-range shot grazed the crossbar.

  • Jerome Thomas

    2.00

    Jerome Thomas

Made little impact but the tone of the second half had been set well before his introduction.

  • Dwight Gayle
    0
    0
    2.50

    Dwight Gayle

Had little service as his side tired in the latter stages but looked lively enough. Couldn't force a breakthrough but had a limited time to make his mark.

  • Michel Vorm
    0
    0
    3.00

    Michel Vorm

Was rarely tested by an impotent Palace attacking corps and was solid when called upon. Struggled slightly with high balls in the opening stages but found his cool shortly after.

  • Chico
    0
    0
    3.00

    Chico

Almost scored early on but saw his effort deflect off the upright shortly after the opener. Put in a competent showing defensively but gave away a string of free kicks in dangerous positions in the first half.

  • Ashley Williams
    0
    0
    3.00

    Ashley Williams

Looked shakey in the early stages but was stoic in defense after settling into the game on his return from injury. Was rarely troubled by a toothless Palace attack.

  • Ángel Rangel
    0
    0
    3.00

    Ángel Rangel

Fine volley almost doubled the visitor's lead and coped comfortably with the admittedly limited threat of Sean Moxey and Cameron Jerome.

  • Ben Davies
    1
    0
    4.00

    Ben Davies

Needed no invitation to get forward and provided much of his side's attacking prowess in the first half. Defensively resolute and a thorn in the Palace side all afternoon. An accomplished all-round performance.

  • Jonjo Shelvey
    3
    0
    3.50

    Jonjo Shelvey

Lubricated the attack and filled in defensive where necessary. Put in a solid display but disappointingly failed to live up to the billing after an eventful showing against Liverpool last week.

  • Michu
    1
    0
    4.00

    Michu Top of the Match

Deadly and clinical in the early stages, dropping in between the lines to draw the Crystal Palace defense out of shape. Constant headache for Palace and had a goal disallowed for offside in the second half. Stuck it to the early doubters and displayed his undoubted quality in the absence of partner in crime Wilfried Bony.

  • Nathan Dyer
    0
    0
    3.50

    Nathan Dyer

Finished well to double his side's advantage and was a constant threat down the flanks all game. Combined well with Michu and De Guzman and lived up to his consistently impressive standards.

  • Wayne Routledge
    0
    0
    3.00

    Wayne Routledge

Bursts of pace down the wing and ran the channels excellently. Final delivery left something to be desired at times but generally caused the opposition defense a number of problems and bullied Dean Moxey throughout.

  • José Cañas
    0
    0
    3.00

    José Cañas

Anchored the midfield with aplomb and misplaced almost none of his passes. His lack of physicality was rarely tested, though, allowing him to enjoy the game at his own pace with little pressure on his shoulders.

  • Álvaro
    0
    0
    2.00

    Álvaro

Failed to deputise to the high standards of Wilfried Bony. Spurned a guilt-edged opportunity to put the game to bed early in the second half and was unable to establish a meaningful rapport with his teammates throughout.

Substitutions

  • Leon Britton
    0
    0
    3.00

    Leon Britton

Sat deep and played the ball out of defense, rarely tested and essentially continued in the same manner as Canas, whom he replaced.

  • Jonathan De Guzmán
    1
    0
    3.50

    Jonathan De Guzmán

Energetic and constantly provided an outlet in the midfield. Added a new dimension to the attack but was unable to express himself as the Swans were content to hold onto a comfortable lead.

  • Pozuelo
    0
    0
    3.00

    Pozuelo

Continued in his rich vein of form and impressed with the ball at his feat upon introduction. His side were comfortable to drop back after the second and so wasn't called upon for his usual blend of trickery and vision.
