  • Thanks as ever for joining me - @HushKerai - for an enthralling evening of Premier League action. Until next time, goodbye!
  • Jose Mourinho's side were out fought and out thought this evening. Samuel Eto'o's debut didn't go as swimmingly as expected. There are quite a few selection issues for the Portuguese to sort through. Does he know his best team?
  • What a game. Roberto Martinez has properly arrived at Goodison Park. There were moans and groans at times when the Toffees persisted with their manager's preferred passing build-up, but in the end it paid dividends.
  • FULL-TIME: Everton 1-0 Chelsea
  • 90' + 3'
The Goodison crowd are all whistling, only seconds left now....
  • 90' + 3'
CHANCE! It opens for Leon Osman to have a strike from the edge of the area but the Everton midfielder has a rush of blood to the head and blasts into the stands!
  • 90' + 2'
    SubstitutionKevin Mirallas Gerard Deulofeu
  • 90' + 1'
There will be a minimum of three added minutes. Torres misses his kick inside the box with his weaker left foot at Chelsea look for one final chance. Everton feel like they'll hang on...
  • 89'
    SubstitutionSteven Naismith John Stones
  • 89'
OFF THE BAR! Leighton Baines clips the top of the bar with the set-piece with Petr Cech rooted to the spot.
  • 88'
CHANCE! Everton are playing the situation superbly. Mirallas is holding on to the ball well and allowing his team-mates to give him support up the pitch. Barkley has run at the visitor's all evening and he wins a free kick right on the edge of the area with the clock running down...
  • 87'
    Yellow Card John Obi Mikel
  • 85'
Petr Cech and David Luiz have a mix up in communication and allow Mirallas to gather a long clearance from the back. Unfortunately for the Toffees the Belgian doesn't spot Barkely's marauding run up the field and Everton surrender possession.
  • 83'
CONTROVERSY! Ross Barkley plays a simply superb ball into Mirallas who beats David Luiz, the last man for Chelsea in defence. The Brazilian hauls him down but escapes with just a booking because of how far up the pitch the challenge took place.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card David Luiz
  • 81'
PENALTY SHOUT! Coleman flies away down the right flank and is brought down by the backtracking Hazard. Howard Webb judges the foul to have taken place outside the box. Sigh of relief from the Chelsea bench.
  • 80'
CHANCE! Ross Barkley does brilliantly in two stages. First breaking into the Chelsea half and then winning the ball back. Mirallas eventually cuts in from the left and shoots powerfully with his right. Petr Cech makes a fine block!
  • 80'
SAVE! Tim Howard does just enough at the near post to deny Samuel Eto'o who looked to have turned in Ramires' cross.
  • 79'
    Yellow Card Eden Hazard
  • 77'
Barry wipes out Ramires off the ball in one of the more comedic fouls you'll see this season. Meanwhile, Everton are working their blue and white socks off, pressing and harrying the Chelsea players in possession. Frantic finish to this match.
  • 74'
Corner after corner after corner! Chelsea are hanging on here as the Toffees throw hammer and tong at them from these set-pieces in search of that elusive second.
  • 72'
CHANCE! It's brilliant from Everton, it really is. They pull Chelsea's backline here and there with some fine passing and interchange but Coleman's cross is blocked by Luiz. Goodison Park is electric!
  • 70'
Fernando Torres joins the action to a chorus of boos because of his history at Liverpool. Mind you, he gets booed there too!
  • 69'
    SubstitutionAshley Cole Fernando Torres
  • 69'
CLOSE! It's another one into the side netting! This time Ramires, on the full stretch, misses the target after meeting Ivanovic's cross.
  • 66'
    SubstitutionNikica Jelavic James McCarthy
  • 66'
James McCarthy comes on to make his Everton debut. He will be requried to be defensively solid rather than offensively expansive in these final 25 minutes as Everton aim to hang on for three points.
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Branislav Ivanovic
  • 63'
Lampard breaks into the box and collects a threaded pass following a dummy from Ashley Cole, but the club's record goalscorer cannot bring it under his spell and Howard is able to gather.
  • 61'
It's all one way traffic following the introductions of Lampard and Oscar. Everton can't make the ball stick to Jelavic when they have it. The Toffees are badly in need of some respite here...
  • 58'
PENALTY SHOUT! Oscar goes down inside the box under a challenge from Sylvain Distin but Howard Webb is having none of it. From first impressions, it looked like the Chelsea man got his toe to the ball first.
  • 57'
    SubstitutionAndre Schürrle Frank Lampard
  • 57'
    SubstitutionJuan Mata Oscar
  • 57'
Hazard tries to get the ball through the smallest of gaps inside the box to find Juan Mata but that's not the way Chelsea are going to penetrate this deep lying Toffess defence.
  • 55'
Good cover from Osman as he stands up Eto'o outside the box and prevents a cross. The Cameroonian looks off the pace slightly but I wouldn't write him off from making an impact just yet.
  • 52'
Chelsea are certainly putting the pressure on the Toffees now. Mikel works his way into the box, but the ball gets stuck under his feet and Everton clear. Yet to score for Chelsea, Mikel.
  • 50'
CHANCE! Eden Hazard slams a shot from range right down Tim Howard's throat and the Everton goalkeeper can only block. Thankfull for him, Eto'o can't quite connect properly with the rebound which trickles harmlessly wide.
  • 47'
CLOSE! Andre Schurlle almost gets Chelsea right back in it. The German makes a good run across the Everton defence and is threaded through on goal but his delicate finish from a tightish angle only hits the side netting!
  • 46'
Everton take the kick-off and we are underway in the second half!
  • A brilliant 45 minutes of action at Goodison Park. Chelsea did all the huffing and puffing and squandered a long list of glorious chances. Everton, though, have had plenty of impressive in the first half. None more so than the goalscorer, Steven Naismith, on his 26th birthday no less.
  • HALF-TIME: Everton 1-0 Chelsea
  • 45' + 1'
    Assist Nikica Jelavic
  • 45' + 1'
    Goal Steven Naismith
  • 45' + 1'
GOAL! Birthday boy Steven Naismith gives Everton the lead after some fine build-up from the Toffees. Leon Osman stands a ball up at the back post, where Jelavic arrives to knock the back into the middle for the Scot to head over the line!
  • 44'
Eden Hazard skips past a couple challenges as in runs along the width of the box before laying the ball of to Juan Mata. The Spaniard attempts to dink the ball into the back post but doesn't quite manage to get over the ball.
  • 43'
Branislav Ivanovic clatters into Jelavic as the pair renew their Serbia - Croatia rivalry from midweek.
  • 41'
Hazard turns Barry right on the edge of the area and wins a free kick off the midfielder. Mata swings the cross in using his right boot but Ivanovic can't direct his header on target from inside the box.
  • 38'
WHAT A MISS! Andre Schurrle has the chance to put Chelsea ahead but miscues his shot spectacularly. Ramires springed the offside trap to run clear through on goal before nudging the ball wide to the German under pressure but the visitors let another chance go begging.
  • 35'
GREAT SAVE! Howard makes up for his earlier error with a superb stop! Eto'o squares a ball to Ramires in the box who fires a right-footed shot in towards the top corner. Thankfull for the hosts, the American shot-stopper manages to get a hand to it.
  • 33'
Everton go back on the attack and Mirallas causes problems for Chelsea before crossing for Naismith who can only stab wide at the near post. The Scot has had an impressive first half.
  • 30'
MASSIVE CHANCE! Howard has moment of madness and passes the ball straight to Hazard from the back. The Belgian squares for Eto'o but Barry rushes across to make the most miraculous of challenges. Barry is making himself an instant hero with the fans.
  • 28'
David Luiz charges out of the back and bypasses his and Everton's midfield in one swoop before attempting an ambitious through ball for Eto'o, which doesn't come off. Good enterprise from the Brazilian, bad execution.
  • 25'
Everton earn themselves another corner and Naismith's cross is met by both Distin and Luiz at the back post, but Chelsea are given the goal kick much to the Toffees defender's annoyance.
  • 22'
Gareth Barry trips over David Luiz as the Brazilian looks to break into the Everton third. Moments later the Chelsea defender does the same to Kevin Mirallas as the Belgian threatens to start an Everton break.
  • 20'
Brilliant stuff from Gareth Barry has he snaps on the heels of the Chelsea midfield to win the ball back twice in quick succession. The former Manchester City man has settled right into life at Goodison Park.
  • 17'
Kevin Mirallas almost squirms through on goal down the left but Ivanovic uses all his strength to wrestle the ball back off the Belgian. Everton are looking lively in attack after what was a electric start from the visitors.
  • 15'
Everton earn a corner after a fine attack with Jelavic and Naismith combining with a series of lobbed passes. The corner is overhit though, and Chelsea survive the danger and are able to push back out.
  • 12'
Superb stuff from Ross Barkely. The youngster charges out of defence and skips past Mikel with a lovely piece of dribbling but his attempt at a very difficult through pass for Mirallas is cut out by Ivanovic.
  • 9'
CHANCE! Everton have a opportunity to break and they do just that with Naismith tearing forward down the right flank. His cross floats over David Luiz and into Nikica Jelavic, but the Croatian can't get any purchase on his header which bounces into Cech's grateful arms.
  • 7'
Mata finds Eto'o inside the box with a cute little pass but Leighton Baines sees the danger and shoulder charges the Chelsea striker off the ball to deny him the chance to shoot.
  • 5'
CLOSE! It's those two again! Ramires this time delivers a fantastic ball into the far post from the right flank. Eto'o rushes in at the back post but his header flies over the bar.
  • 4'
CHANCE! Early chance for the Chelsea as Samuel Eto'o gets involved. Ramires looks for the Cameroon international with a cutback inside the box but Phil Jagielka is there to make the interception.
  • 2'
A fine start from the Toffees. Ross Barkely tries to skip past a few challenges on the right flank while Gareth Barry gets his Everton career off to a solid start with a couple of neat passes.
  • 1'

  • The teams are emerging from the tunnel to a raucous atmosphere inside Goodison Park. Kick-off is moments away...
  • While Jose Mourinho said this on Mata: "He is a player I like very much, that's why he's here. He is a player I trust a lot and will fight for position like everybody else. Sometimes he will start, sometimes on the bench and sometimes he may not be selected because the squad is so competitive. With a match every three days, I will make 'strange' decisions to your eyes but because I think further than the next match and I want to have him at his maximum level."
  • Roberto Martinez on Barry in his pre-match interview: "I see him getting back in the England team because there are not many like him. Normally in England you get the box-to-box midfielder, but Gareth brings a more continental approach."
  • Gareth Barry starts for Everton after making his deadline day move to Goodison Park. James McCarthy will have to wait for his chance to play under Roberto Martinez again.
  • Chelsea fans finally get the chance to see Samuel Eto'o get his first-ever taste of Premier League action this afternoon. He replaces Fernando Torres who drops down to a very strong looking Chelsea bench.
