Nigeria U17 vs CIV U17

After a shock defeat in the hands of the Baby Elephants of Cote D’ivoire on Wednesday, the Golden Eaglets will hope to bounce back to winning ways against a tough Congolese side that is yet to lose a match at the championship.

This match billed for the Grande Stade de Marrakech is expected to bring the best from both teams who still stand a good chance to scale through to the last four. Another factor that makes this a prospective tough one is the fact that the Junior Red Devils were one of Africa’s flag bearers at the last Fifa U17 World Cup having finished third on the continent, and would want to get another chance to do so at the United Arab Emirates.

Having scored six goals in two games in this tournament so far – their 6-1 hammering of Ghana in the opening match, and bowing out to Niangbo’s late goal against Cote D’ivoire who parked the bus in front of their goal - Manu’s boys are condemned to soar above their Central African opposition knowing fully well what is at stake.

Congo’s handler, Ekariki Basile who won bronze medal in Rwanda two years ago as an assistant to Eddie Hudansky will be without two of his key players, Antoni Andrely and Francis Bogart who are out of this encounter on suspension after the duo was cautioned in their last two games. However, the Congolese will bank on Kader Bidimbou and Bersyl Obassi to upset the skilful West Africans.

Should Nigeria win this encounter and consequently top the group, they will remain in Marrakech where they will lock horns with the Tunisians who finished as group A’s runners up.
