The Covert Agent: Morris Iemma appointed chairman of potential A-League franchise Southern Expansion

Southern Expansion continue to ramp up their A-League bid with the imminent announcement of former NSW premier Morris Iemma as chairman.

The Covert Agent can reveal the 56-year-old former politician will be appointed this week, replacing the late Les Murray.

The acquisition of Iemma is a coup for Chinese investors Jia Yuan, who are determined to get a spot in the A-League and won't take no for an answer.

The Covert Agent revealed last week that Jia Yuan made offers to buy current clubs Central Coast and Wellington, but were rejected on both proposals.

Southern Expansion is hoping to be the third A-League team in Sydney and cover an area south of the CBD, including St George, Sutherland and South Coast football communities.

Council approval has been obtained to build a 30,000-seat stadium in Loftus, with the franchise committing $9 million to the project in their proposal to the FFA.
