'Mohamed is fit' - Salah's agent issues positive update on Egypt star's fitness

Mohamed Salah's agent has confirmed that the Liverpool forward is fit to return to action for Egypt at the World Cup for Tuesday's clash with Russia.

The 26-year-old missed his country's loss to Uruguay on Friday because of the shoulder injury he sustained in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

Egypt were blunt without their star man, falling to a disappointing 1-0 defeat, with Jose Gimenez's injury-time header gifting victory to a below-par Uruguay side.

However, Salah looks set to return to action for Egypt's vital second group game, against the host nation, although previous insistence that he would play against Uruguay will plant seeds of doubt in many minds.

His agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, tweeted, simply: "Mohamed is fit."

Russia ran riot in their opening game, thrashing Saudi Arabia 5-0 to take control of Group A.

That result, coupled with Egypt's defeat, means that they cannot afford another defeat on the biggest stage, and they will be hopeful that Salah can replicate his 2017-18 club form against Russia.

Salah scored a staggering 44 goals in 52 appearances for Liverpool, as they finished fourth in the Premier League, and reached the final of Europe's premier club competition.

His shoulder injury, sustained in a challenge with Sergio Ramos, has led to doubts over his participation in Russia.

The Egyptian Football Assocation has declared Salah fit, saying: "He was fit to play against Uruguay but the coach did not want to take the risk."

However, pictures have emerged from Egypt training showing Salah's team-mates helping him put on a t-shirt, adding to the mystery over his fitness.

Manager Hector Cuper is bullish, though, claiming it is "almost 100 per cent" that he will play.
