The club announced the former West Ham United player as the winner of the award and the prize will be presented to him at their next home game on Sunday.

“The Senegalese midfielder topped the vote ahead of team-mates Jacob Murphy and Paul Dummett, with his excellent performances impressing supporters even before his goal against Crystal Palace this month,” read a statement on club website.

“Diame joined Newcastle from Hull City in the summer of 2016 and, having initially struggled to win over some supporters, his recent displays have seen him emerge as one of the first names on Rafa Benítez's team sheet.
