Mexicans Abroad Minute: Chicharito nearing return, Gullit scores

This week wasn't the best for Mexican players playing in Europe.

For one, just one of Porto's four Mexican players earned a start in the big derby match against Benfica, a scoreless draw. Hector Herrera had a fine showing in midfield, and Raul Jimenez came in for a brief cameo for Benfica, but Diego Reyes didn't enter the match, Miguel Layun didn't even make the team and Jesus Corona was suspended for the scoreless draw.

Things were better elsewhere, though. Carlos "Gullit" Pena started for Rangers during a midweek game against Aberdeen and found the back of the net in a 3-0 victory. While the former Leon midifelder hasn't been a regular for Rangers, The Gers have won four out of the five matches Pena has started.

Things are going well for another Carlos, with Carlos Salcedo seeming to have secured a starting place for Eintracht Frankfurt. "El Titan" went the full 90 minutes for the Bundesliga side in a 2-1 win over Hertha, his seventh start for the club where he looks to have locked down the right center back spot in the team's three-man back line.

Salcedo's teammate with both club and country Marco Fabian could make a return from injury soon. 2018 was the original target date after his summer back surgery but the former Chivas man already is back in training. So too is Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez at West Ham United. The Hammers look like they could use the forward. He's still the leading scorer for the team in Premier League action despite missing the month of November thanks to his injury suffered with the national team against Belgium. West Ham went ahead last weekend but ended up losing to Manchester City to extend its winless run to eight matches.
